1. Walkthrough WKTH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the start of the game, listen to the good Professor talk about the
game controls and adventure information if you wish, but otherwise, choose the
third option to continue (click the red box on the bottom screen to back up out
of the first dialogue choice, and just hit the text in the second one to
finish). Afterwards, tap the center of the Pokéball for Professor Rowan to show
off Munchlax in an exposition. Once he's finished, choose either the male or
female character by highlighting and then selecting them (whichever you choose
will not determine the course of the story or gameplay).
Choose a name for your character, confirm it, then use either one of the
default names for your rival or choose his name as well. For the course of this
walkthrough, we shall refer to him as Rival. Confirm his name as well, and then
you will be shrunk and put into the game world.

Watch the TV program, which is talking about a red Gyrados in hidings.
Afterwards, head down the staircase, and you will be met with by your mother,
whom shall have you be running after your Rival. Exit the house (with a warning
that will not apply for any longer than five minutes), then go to the
northwestern house in Twinleaf Town. Rival will pop out once you approach and
then head back inside. Follow after him, and go up the staircase in his house to
his room on the second floor. After the conversation is done, make your
leavetakings and continue outside again, then head north and into the Route 201
Area.
---------

---------
Proceed north again and you shall encounter your Rival once again. After
he is done talking, he will tag up with you again. Now head west (Rival will
stop you from heading east for the moment), then go north and enter into the
forest/lake area.

Inside, you will automatically have an encounter with Professor Rowan
and either Lucas (if you are a girl) or Dawn (if you are a boy). The two shall
take their leave, giving you the opportunity to choose your own Pokémon. You had
better make it a good one, as a Starly will attack you at that moment. Below is
a brief profile of each of the starter Pokémon and their evolution chain.
____________________
#001 Turtwig - Grass
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Turtwig is an effective all-around balanced Pokémon, knowing Withdraw
right from the start, and learns Absorb and Razor Leaf at Levels 9 and 13.
Coupled with the Overgrow ability, which allows it's Grass attacks to increase
in power by 1.5 when HP is low, makes an effective early fighter, and it evolves
into Grotle at Level 18 and Torterra at Level 32, the latter of which will
be Grass/Ground type, and will be effective in Gyms 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8.
____________________
#004 Chimchar - Fire
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Chimchar focuses on attack, and can learn Leer, Taunt, Facade, and Calm
Mind as well as a variety of other physical and Fire attacks. The ability Blaze
allows his Fire attacks to deal 1.5x damage at low HP, but it's real claim to
fame is it's early evolution - evolving at Level 14 to Monferno (though it only
evolves to Infernape at Level 36). These latter two forms are also Fighting
type, much like the previous generation's Fire-starter's evolution chain, with
other attacks learnable like Feint, In Fight, and Punish. This makes him useful
in Gyms 1 (once evolved), 2, 5, 6, and 7. I HIGHLY recommend taking Chimchar
because, besides Ponyta/Rapidash, he is the ONLY Fire-type that you will be able
to obtain in the game until you have seen all 150 Sinnoh Pokémon, and Fire-types
are very much needed in the regular game of Diamond/Pearl.
___________________
#007 Piplup - Water
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Piplup is basically the "advanced player's Pokémon" of the
Diamond/Pearl generation, with a very poor early attack range ranging from
Bubble to Bide - not exactly the greatest variety. However, once he evolves to
Prinplup at level 16, things look up a bit, with attacks such as Metal Claw and
Bubblebeam, and Empoleon (whom is evolved to at Level 36) has a second type of
Steel, and can learn good attacks such as Aqua Jet, Mist, and Drill Peck. Thus,
this Pokémon is generally not very useful in gyms, likely only being effective
in Gyms 1, 5, 6, and 7.
After you make your pick of Pokémon (and in traditional fashion, your
Rival will choose the Pokémon that yours is weak to), you will have to fend off
a Level 2 Starly. At this point in time, I believe that you will not need a
strategy considering the lopsided power of your own Pokémon, so just attack
until the Starly falls. Once done, Lucas/Dawn will come back to meet you and
take the suitcase back. Head back south and leave the forest.
---------
Route 201
---------
Head east from here, and you will encounter Professor Rowan and
Lucas/Dawn again. After you finish your small talk, you shall then be
automatically transported back to your house in Twinleaf Town.

Shinnoh and help him in catologuing Pokémon? Accept, and he will give you the
Pokédex, and send you off. Lucas/Dawn will also receive the third Pokémon of the
initial trio, making a secondary rival for you.
Outside, Lucas/Dawn will take you around for a little more sightseeing,
showing off the Poké Mart and Pokémon Center. Afterwards, s/he will head to the
northeast exit to Route 202 and block it off...for now. Instead, make your way
back across Route 201 back to Twinleaf Town (if you wish to, you might also want
to head to the Poké Mart here to pick up some Poké Balls, but you will be
getting some more relatively soon).

Continue north and then west through the grasses, and you will meet up
with Lucas/Dawn again. Lucas/Dawn will teach you the conventions of battling and
capturing a Pokémon, so if you are new to the series, pay attention. After some
words from him/her, s/he shall then give you five Poké Balls, and finally
leaves.
Now that we are on our merry way, it should be noted that this is an
appropriate time to catch some Pokémon for general battling, as if you only have
your Starter right now, things may get tough in the future. Picking up one of
each species in the area before you go on is a good idea, along with training
each of them to Level 4 or Level 5. Bidoof you will probably find to be useless
(but can still be utilized as a very useful HM whore), but Starly and Shinx each
will be relatively useful for those just wanting to make it through the game,
with no multiplayer; the former species will learn a number of Flying techniques
and can spam status moves, while the latter can learn Dark-type moves in
addition to Electric moves to destroy any Psychic-types you may encounter.
Kricketot is also useful, especially if you can get one holding Metronome.
After you are done, continue west and north through the grass, then try
to head east and you will meet up and battle your very first trainer - Youngster
Tristan.
_________________
Youngster Tristan
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This battle is pretty easy to win, given that he has only a Level 5
Starly. Send out either your own Starly or a Shinx, as either of them can
counter the effects of his Growl with Growl and Leer, respectively. After the
battle of altrition is over and Tristan's Starly starts attacking, respond in
favor the next turn. The only other note here is the enemy Starly's Quick Attack
- if your own Pokémon does not have enough health to sustain another attack (and
it is not a Starly with Quick Attack and higher Speed stats), switch it out, as
Quick Attack always strikes first.
With the battle over, continue east along the dirt road. You will be
caught by the next trainer in line, Lass Natalie.
____________
Lass Natalie
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Let's face it - if you have been doing any sort of training whatsoever,
Natalie's Pokémon lineup will be a basic joke, given the two Bidoofs' low
levels. As such, you should treat them as fodder to gain a bit of experience
points for once you reach Jubilife City. Just send out a Pokémon, and attack
attack attack until your opposition falls.
Once finished, continue north through the field of grass. Try to
continue west, and you will be forced to battle the last of the triad of
trainers in Route 202; Youngster Logan.
_______________
Youngster Logan
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
By this point in time, your Pokémon should have gone up a few levels
from the previous battles and random encounters. As Logan's Shinx is only
Level 5, it does not yet know any Electrical techniques, so send out a Starly if
you want to. Otherwise, this should not be too difficult of a battle.
Now that you have defeated all the trainers in Route 202, head straight
west from your original position to the northwest position. Here, grab a Potion
from a Pokéball lying on the grass patch, then go back east just a bit and head
north into Jubilife City.

Here, you shall meet up with Lucas/Dawn again. S/he will give you the
number of Pokémon that you have caught so far, then takes her leave after
informing you of your Rival's current location - at the Trainer School right
here in Jubilife City.
The best way to find your Rival is to use its relative location -
opposite the street from the Pokémon Center in town. Enter the building, and
inside, talk to Rival, whom is at the blackboard. You will lose the Parcel, but
in turn, shall obtain a Town Map. He will mark his next objective as Oreburgh
City, then leaves the school. Before leaving the place, talk to the two trainers
on the blue carpet in here to fight them. Answer yes to fight each of them.
___________________
School Kid Harrison
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Given that School Kid Harrison only has a single Abra, and his Abra has
only a single attack, it should be considered a one-trick pony. The only thing
that should be considered is that your Pokémon with lower Special Defense stats
may not be able to inflict serious damage, so bring in someone with a decent
physical attack but also reasonable Special Defense.
____________________
School Kid Christine
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
See strategy above for School Kid Christine, considering it is the exact
same battle.
After winning both battles, talk to School Kid Harrison again, and he
will give you TM 10, Hidden Power. Now that you have done what you can here,
exit back outside onto the streets. Try to head north, and you will be stopped
by a man whom will offer you a Pokétch/Pokémon Watch in exchange for three
Pokéwatch coupons held by three clowns hiding around town. You will want to grab
a Pokétch, because it can offer a number of applications that are really useful.
Each clown is wearing a yellow suit and yellow hat with white balls, so here are
their locations;
1) Walking around right behind the nearby Pokémon Center
2) Hanging out in front of the TV station (far northwest section of the
town, has a giant TV screen over the building)
3) West a ways from the TV station, wandering around in front of the
Pokéwatch Company
Answer "Yes" to all three of their questions, and in turn they will each
give you a coupon. Once you have obtained all three Pokéwatch coupons, head back
to the man who accosted you earlier near the Pokémon Center, and exchange them
for a Pokéwatch.
With all that done, there is only one thing left to do around here
before we leave. Head north and go all the way west into the border check area.
In here, talk to the fisherman and answer yes to get the Old Rod. While it is
almost completely useless, it DOES allow you to catch Magikarp, which, once
trained to a sufficient level, can evolve into the more powerful Gyrados.
There are a couple of optional directions that you can go right now. You
could go west past the checkpoint and onto Route 218, or you could go north to
Route 204. However, Route 218 is a basic dock, and Route 204 leads to a dead end
right now, and will be visited later in the future. For now, just head east, and
out onto Route 203.

Right after entering Route 203, you will be instantly accosted by your
Rival, who will then challenge you to a Pokémon battle. Prepare yourself, and
being the battle of the titans.
_____
Rival
ŻŻŻŻŻ
Bring into the match your own starting Pokémon to counter Starly. This
is because (with the exception of if you have Piplup), Rival's own starter will
have a move that your's is weak to, and you do not want to put yourself into
that predicament. This is why you instead want to use your own starter now
against Starly. Deal with him thus, by first using whatever current stat-
changing moves you have for a turn or two, then take out Starly.
Once your Rival sends out his starter, retaliate with multiple stat-
lowering moves (if you are using Turtwig, then merely attack). Once your starter
is taken out of the match, your ideal next choice will be your own Starly for
two reasons - the first is that using Quick Attack, you can avert undesirable
results and get a fast hit in. The second is that if you are facing Turtwig, and
Starly is at least Level 9, you can use it's Wing Attack for super-effective
damage against Turtwig. Either way, Rival's starter should already be battered
enough by now, so take it out.
After you have obtained victory and your Rival runs off, head straight
north between two sections of forest to face off against the Youngster Michael.
_________________
Youngster Michael
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The first part of the battle should not be too difficult - just send
someone in and rape Tomoki's Michael to hell and back. No, it is the next part
that you should be worried about, as Zubat is Poison and Flying, two type
attributes that you should not yet have any attacks that are super-effective
against.
Additionally, Zubat can use Supersonic, which can confuse your own
Pokémon and cause it to attack itself. To counter this, I suggest you bring in
somebody with a good attack and speed that can take out Zubat in two hits,
before it can use Leech Life to restore itself, or Supersonic to pit your
Pokémon against itself.
Finally done with the battle, head around clockwise from Tomoki to find
a Pokéball lying on the ground. Pick it up to obtain an item Poké Ball, then
jump off of the nearby ledge. Now, head east along the path and up the first
flight of staircases, and you will encounter Youngster Dallas.
________________
Youngster Dallas
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Dallas will send out a Kricketot, which is a pure Bug type. Send out
Chimchar, and destroy it with Ember. Lacking Chimchar, send out a Starly that is
at least Level 9, and do a one-turn kill with Wing Attack. Simple as that, and
Bide won't come into effect for at least a few turns, making the insurance
against any damage even less mandatory.
Now that the battle is done, head right and up the next flight of
stairs. You can dodge this next trainer if you want by walking alongside the
bottom or top strip of land, but if you want to fight, well, here is the
strategy for the next trainer; Lass Kaitlin.
____________
Lass Kaitlin
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Of course, you STILL won't have anything that is super-effective against
Bidoof's type attributes, but given the species' general lack of stats in
ANYTHING, and it only being Level 4, you can send out anything you want to
against it, so long as it has an attack.
After Bidoof falls, Kaitlin will send out either her Starly or her
Budew. If it is a Starly she sends out, resist the urge to send out your own
Starly / Chimchar if you have one, and send out somebody else to counter it.
Again, given it is only Level 4, it should not take too much of an effort to
defeat it.
With her Budew, given it's Bug/Poison type, you have two choices. You
can either use a Chimchar if you have one complete with Ember, or you could use
Starly to utilize a Wing Attack. Or you could just send out something completely
neutral to it's type attributes. Just be sure that whatever you utilize has a
decent chunk of health left, as Budew knows Absorb, which can steal a handful
of your own health and add it to hers.
Next up, continue along to the southeast corner to face off against
Youngster Sebastian. This is another battle though that can be avoided, so long
as you make sure to run past him while he is looking in a direction other than
yours.
___________________
Youngster Sebastian
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Start the battle off with a flying-type Pokémon (aka. Starly, the only
flyer available to you at this point in time), and use Wing Attack against his
Machop. Even if he manages to get a Low Kick on you, it won't do super-effective
damage against Starly's Normal-type.
Since that battle was ended so prematurely, continue to head up north.
You can walk around the back of the last trainer to avoid her. Otherwise,
prepare to face off against Lass Madeline.
_____________
Lass Madeline
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The real worry in this battle is that Starly knows Quick Attack, which
means Madeline will spam it, which means Starly will always attack first. The
two ways that you can counter this is to either bring in your own Starly to use
Quick Attack (higher speed will have more precedence) or a Pokémon out of her
Starly's league, meaning it can win in a few turns. Since you have likely used a
Starly up already, try something else.
Afterwards, she will bring out a Bidoof. As we all know, Bidoof sucks,
so send out whatever you need to and defeat it.
Now that we are done with the retinue of trainers in Route 203, head
north and west down the small stairs, then grab the Pokéball lying on the ground
here for a Repel. Now that this is all over, I recommend you go back to the
Pokémon Center in Jubilife City first and heal up. That said, go into the cave
via the entrance east of Lass Madeline.

Walk past the hiker at the beginning of the cave, and he will give you
HM06, which will teach you Rock Smash. After a brief tutorial on HMs, he shall
also warn you that you need to beat the Oreburgh Gym Leader first to use it out
of battle. Of course, that is where we are going.
However, since you cannot use Rock Smash outside of battle yet, you
cannot go north (and thus cannot capture any Psyducks at the moment, until you
get to Route 204, which is a dead end path off of Route 203). I do, however,
recommend that you teach one of your Normal-type Pokémon Rock Smash, so it can
deal with all the Rock-types that you will face very soon, along with a couple
of Shinxes. Instead, head east to fight two consecutive battles.
_____________
Camper Curtis
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Camper Curtis' lone Pokémon, a Shinx, is reasonably leveled. However,
because it knows only Tackle and Leer, you can probably overpower it easily; in
fact, if you are trying to level up some of the weaker Pokémon like a Bidoof to
evolve it for Pokédex completion before you put it away, now is a good time to
teach Bidoof Rock Smash, a Fighting-type move. Given its type attribute, it also
means it will be super-effective against Shinx, an electric-type.
Continue right a bit to fight again.
_______________
Picnicker Diana
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
I would not be too worried about either of Diana's Pokémon. Psyduck's
only real move is Scratch, which does negligible amounts of damage, and Subimo
is a Bug Pokémon, again weak to both Fire and Flying attacks. Just bring out a
pair of Pokémon that you wish to level up and use Diana's lineup as experience
point fodder.
Having finished both battles, continue on outside into Oreburgh City.

Once you enter town from the Gate area, you should encounter a
Youngster. He will guide you over to the Oreburgh Gym, where you can meet up

currently in the Oreburgh Mine. I believe that makes our next direction pretty
clear-cut. Let us take a side-stop to Route 207 first, however. This is north of

off against Worker Colin.
____________
Worker Colin
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Given that both of Colin's Pokémon are Rock-types, it means that you
cannot expect a Normal-type attack to hurt. Instead, you'll have to use other
attacks, such as Rock Smash or Bubble, or neutral attacks such as Kricketot's
Bide, or its evolution's Fury Cutter. Other than that, I cannot really offer any
advice, other than to watch out for Onix's Bind - it can and WILL hurt.
After the battle, continue right some more, then talk to the guy in
between two rocks wearing a red hardhat. This is the Oreburgh Gym Leader,
Roark. After he uses Rock Smash on one of the rocks, he will invite you to
battle him in the gym. Once he leaves, head right and then go north, opening the
Pokéball on the way to get a Potion. Talk to the guy in front of the rock facing
the wall if you want to face Worker Mason.
____________
Worker Mason
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This is a ridiculously easy fight. Bring in a Flying-type (aka your
Starly most likely), and use a Flying-type attack. Battle over in two attacks
tops.
Now that that is over, continue going around the room counterclockwise,
then head north and exit out the way you came in. Continue up north through the
gave and outside back into Oreburgh City.
-------------
Oreburgh City
-------------
Now that we have gotten Roark back into the gym, we have some last
minute preparations to make. Go the Pokémon Center, and pick up Potions where
needed.
PRE-BATTLE PREPARATIONS: For your Pokémon list, definitely bring your
starter. If your starter was Chimchar, evolve it to Monferno at Level 14 so it
can gain Mach Punch, a Fighting-type move. If your starter was Piplup, you may
also wish to evolve it at Level 16 to gain the useful Metal Claw, a Steel-type
move. Other useful Pokémon to use are Kricketune (evolution of Kricketot) which
will have Fury Cutter and Leech Life), Budew if you decided to grab one off of
Route 204 (learns Mega Drain at Level 13), and anything that can learn Rock
Smash (another Fighting-type move). Taking in a Machop from Route 207, from the
north of the city, is also a very feasible idea, because, again, Fighting beats
Rock.
After you have finished organizing a reasonable party, head off to the
gym.

Youngster Darius
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Youngster Darius has two instead of one Pokémon in his lineup, but they
ARE weaker. This can actually be used as a fodder match, so bring out one of
your weaker Pokémon (that has a type-advantage attack) that you wish to level
up, and let it loose on the Geodude, and then his Onix.
Now that that is done, continue up, and you will face the overseer of
the gym - Gym Leader Roark.
________________
Gym Leader Roark
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Before I start with the general strategy for each Pokémon, I will tell
you about the properties of Stealth Rock. Each of Roark's Pokémon can use it,
and when it is utilized, whenever you switch Pokémon, the new Pokémon that you
bring in will be injured by Stealth Rock for a one-time hit. However, Stealth
Rock will continue hitting on throughout the battle, so definitely make sure to
be prepared for it after Roark uses it and you switch out.
Roark's starter, Geodude, should not be underestimated, but neither
should you take out all the stops and throw everything you have it. Throw one of
your weaker Pokémon out to battle it (likely one of the Bugs, or someone whom
knows Rock Smash), as you will need your strongest Pokémon for later on in the
match. If you have a Kricketune at a decent chunk of HP and Defense, you could
also try using Fury Cutter multiple times in a row so (if) when you defeat
Geodude, the attack power will carry over to when fighting Onix. Mega Drain is
also a fine choice.
After Roark sends out Geodude, switch Pokémon if your front-liner only
knew Fighting moves to attack with (with the exception of if it is an evolved
Monferno). This is because Onix has a high physical defense, and even being
able to hit it with an attack it's weak against means nothing much if it is a
physical attack. Indeed, you will probably want to use either Mega Drain
(Kricketune and Turtwig), Leech Seed + Absorb + Razor Leaf (Turtwig) or Bubble
(Piplup), all of them being Special Attacks except for Razor Leaf.
Finally, Roark will pull out his trump card - the never-before-seen
Cranidos. Besides having a VERY mean attack coupled with Headbutt (which can
also cause flinching, losing you a turn), Cranidos has the Unconventional
ability - which negates Overgrow and Torrent if using Turtwig or Piplup. Choose
carefully whom you bring into the duel to start - his Pursuit attack means that
if you try to switch your own Pokémon out, it will do double damage to whoever
it hits. As such, I would recommend you bring in to start someone whom can act
as a big wall, and wear it down with status-lowering attacks, and then change it
to your own best Pokémon, then take it out with type-advantage attacks.
With your first gym battle in the bag, Roark will give you the Coal
Badge, which allows you to use the HM06 Rock Smash out of battle, and also hands
over TM76, which teaches Stealth Rock. Afterwards, leave the gym.

Go to the Pokémon Center, then try to leave the city by way of the
Oreburgh Gate. You will be stopped by your Rival, whom has also won the Coal
Badge, and informs you that you cannot take Route 207 to Eterna City, home to
the next Gym, without a bicycle. To get to Eterna, you will have to now go there
by way of Jubilife City, so enter the gate.

While heading back, go north this time when you get the chance. As you
can now use Rock Smash, utilize it to break open the rocks, then continue north
and east down the staircase. Down in the basement area, head left from the
entrance, breaking some rocks up and going around a larger unbreakable rock to
open a Pokéball for a Stardust, then head back to the start and go right and
around clockwise to get TM70. Afterwards, exit back up to the top floor, then
head south and make your way outside, then continue on to Jubilife City.

Go to the Pokémon Center and recover up where needed. Before continuing
on, put in the front of your lineup someone like your starter (regardless of
type) or a Flying-type Pokémon. Preferably at least a reasonably-strong Pokémon
(Level 11+). That done, head to the far north of Jubilife City, and you will
encounter Lucas/Dawn and Professor Rowan being cornered by two men in blue.
These will turn out to be members of Team Galaxy, and after some small talk, you
and Lucas/Dawn will get into a double-team battle against the two grunts.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Depending on which Pokémon that you chose at the beginning of the game,
Lucas/Dawn will have the type that you are weak to, and at Level 13. No matter
whether s/he has Chimchar, Turtwig or Piplup, you should bring in a Rock-type
such as Geodude, as both Wurmple and Zubat have type weaknesses to Rock-type
attacks. If s/he's using Chimchar, let him/her have Wurmple while you take
Zubat. Otherwise, it is fair game as to who you take on first. The Galactic
Grunt's Pokémon themselves should not be too much of a trouble, so long as you
finish the battle swiftly - else, Zubat's Supersonic and Bite may take a bit too
much of your HP.
Having won, Lucas/Dawn and the Professor will talk some more, and leave.
Before you are free to move, a guy from the TV Station shall then come up to you
and inform you the station is once more open, and hands off a Fashion Case to
you, which will allow you to dress your Pokémon up at the TV station. If you
wish to do so at this point in time, head to the TV station, and on the first
floor, you can duel a trainer to the direct left of the lobby desk; not sure
under what circumstances, but there seems to be at least two different possible
trainers you can face (see strategy below). After, do whatever you will on the
rest of the building. Otherwise, head north into Route 204, and be sure to bring
somebody who knows Rock Smash with.
_
?
Ż
Be careful as you start off - because both of his Zubat know Supersonic,
the potential is there for you to be inflicted with the confusion status effect.
Since you are unlikely to have Persim Berry on hand, I recommend you save
yourself the trouble and simply switch out Pokémon if you get confused - not
only will the confusion be gone if you switch back in your original Pokémon, but
you also save yourself the trouble of injuring yourself.
The other note of interest is Zubat's Astonish attack; this can cause
you to flinch, and negate one of you turns. As such, bring in somebody who's
quick on their feet and a heavy hitter, along with a backup in case your first
falls through to confusion. Good choices if you have their respective type-
attribute attacks on hand at this point are Kadabra, Geodude, and Shinx.
Otherwise, simply use powerful attacks to finish the two Zubats off.

Poké Kid Ariel
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The two Pikachus will be fairly annoying to handle with, as likely you
do not have anything at this point in the game to counter Electric-types; that
both Pikachus know Thunder Wave and constantly spam it, along with the Ability
Static that may randomly cause your own Pokémon to be paralyzed makes it very
annoying. However, you may also want to use this reliance on Paralysis to your
advantage; tougher Pokémon such as Machop (complete with Guts), or a Geodude or
Onix (who cannot be affected by Paralysis through Thunder Wave thanks to a
Ground subtype) are more likely to work. If Machop gets Paralyzed, Guts will
increase his attack by 50% and allow him to slaughter the Pikachus. Geodude and
Onix will be able to fight them off without a chance of getting Paralyzed. For
safe measures, bring some Paralyze Heals to the battle.

From the start of the route, detour from the regular path and instead go
right, then north on the opposite side of the fence. Grab a Pokéball here across
the pond for a Paralyze Heal. Now proceed back to the entrance, and head north
and you will quickly face off with Lass Sarah.
__________
Lass Sarah
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
A reasonably easy fight. As her only Pokémon is a Bidoof, which is pure
Normal type, bring out whichever of your Pokémon that you brought that knew Rock
Smash. A couple of obligatory move-type advantage attacks later, her lone Bidoof
should be out and under, and you the victor of the match.
After the battle is over, continue to head north (and a bit left), and
you will then be confronted by Youngster Tyler.
_______________
Youngster Tyler
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Bring in ANYONE you like to fight Tyler, so long as they have an
attack. His Magikarp only knows Splash, and the attack is ineffective as always.
Ideally, you could put in the front of your lineup somebody who knows an stat-
raising move so as to prepare for the next Pokémon, but it is your choice.
Once Magikarp is down, Tyler will bring out his (slightly) tougher
Starly. As it knows Quick Attack, you risk taking damage unless you respond with
your own Quick Attack first turn. By now, if you have been power-levelling any
electric Pokémon you have gotten your hands on, you may have an Electric move to
hit it with. Otherwise, bring in something like a Normal-type to respond and do
battle.
Now that that is over, proceed north through the large area of grass,
and fight off Lass Samanatha, whom is standing at the very end of the trek.
_____________
Lass Samantha
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Be careful as to not bring in anybody whom is weak to Grass attacks, aka
a water or rock type that you might have picked up. As Budew is a bug type,
however, you should have no problems with subduing it through either the use of
Fire or Flying attacks (be careful to watch out for it's Water Sport if using
Fire, however; this will decrease the effectiveness of your Fire-type attacks).
Once you are done battling here, continue on and into the tunnel cave.
In here, turn left and head that direction, and use Rock Smash to break your way
through. Grab the Pokéball lying on the cave floor here for TM39, then head the
opposite way, smashing any boulders in your way, and leave the cave from the
eastern exit. Outside again, go west and then north, and you should come up
against Aroma Lady Taylor.
_________________
Aroma Lady Taylor
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Bring out whoever you started to fight against Lass Samantha, as her
opener, another Budew, is the EXACT same as Samantha's Budew as far as move set
goes. Afterwards, you may choose to keep your starter in, as Cherubi, Kaori's
next Pokémon, is a Grass-type. Alternatively, you can also bring in any Bug
Pokémon that you have, as Grass-types are also weak to Bug-attribute attacks.
Either way, through the power of type-advantage, her Cherubi will fall without
too much of a struggle as well.
With the battle finished, pick up the Awakening lying on the ground
nearby, then continue north. Past the patch of grass, you should spot Bug
Catcher Brandon, whom is wandering back and forth in a straight line left and
right.
___________________
Bug Catcher Brandon
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Being what they are, Brandon's Pokémon are obviously weak to the
aforementioned Fire and Flying-type attacks. However, they are also at a
disadvantage against Rock-type attacks, and without any Grass-type attacks to
counter with, you can bring in a Geodude or Onix without worrying about getting
raped. Just be careful to have an Antidote on hand for this battle - Wurmple
knows Poison Sting, which if you let it affect you, can end up being nasty.
Finally, with only a single battle up to finish, head north and west to
face off against the Twin sisters Liv and Liz in battle.
_______________________________
Twins Liv & Liz (Double Battle)
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
As this is your second battle, you may not be familiar with the rules,
so I will repeat them - you will bring out your first two Pokémon in the order
that they are on your submenu. As such, properly arrange your second Pokémon
beforehand, so as to avoid any mistakes.
Anyways, the two Pachirisu are a pair of electric rats. However, as type
advantages have been changed around slightly, only Ground-type attacks are super
effective against them. If lacking anyone with such an attack, a smart move here
would be to bring in two female Pokémon (to avoid Charm) that can quickly knock
out the Pachirisu (both of whom know Bide, which can hurt if you let it).
Something like a Geodude or Onix you may have picked up can also work, as their
defense stats will stop them from taking much damage. Other than that, not much
can be said, except for perhaps bringing in somebody who knows Quick Attack to
counter their own.
With the final battle over, head up and left from the twin sisters and
between the fences, and grab a Pokéball lying on the ground to obtain TM09. Now
that your trek is done, head back across the fences and go north into Floaroma
Town.

After completing your obvious stops at the Pokémon Center and Poké Mart,
you should go and pick the two berries north of the Poké Mart in front of the
resident flower shop. Talk to the lady on the left to get a Sprayduck, which
you can use to water a berry plant to be able to produce more berries. Talk to
the lady wandering around on the right side of the shop, and once a day, she
shall give you a random berry. You can also talk to the woman at the counter to
buy Dress Up accessories, but you will need a special currency for that, which
you cannot get until later.
Outside again, go left to the house with the wooden red roof, and enter.
Inside, talk to the girl sitting next to the figurine and talk to her. Say
"Yes" to her query to obtain TM88. Other than that, however, there is not much
to do in this town for the time being (and the presence of the two Team Galactic
Grunts in the northwest corner of the area has no bearing on the plotline at the
current moment), so once done, strike out east.
---------

Out here, head east, and after the row of flowers, you can pick up two
more Berries to add to your slowly-expanding collection. Continue on, and then
talk to the little girl who is standing in the middle of the road to find out

be barred from entering by two Team Galactic Grunts. Instead, it seems that we
will have to continue on our way to the Valley Windworks.

This is an obvious rendition of "bring in somebody with Rock Smash" once
one realizes that Glameow is a Normal-type. The only thing that one should
REALLY watch out for is Glameow's Fake Out ability - a first-turn first-strike
ability that can cause your own Pokémon to flinch. Thankfully, it cannot use it
again after the first turn, which gives you enough time to calculate your own
vengeance.
Post-battle, the Team Galactic Grunt will let loose some stray
information for you before he heads into the Windworks, locking the door behind
him. Head back to Floaroma Town.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The general category of what you should use to start off in this battle
is fairly obvious - Fire, Flying, and Rock will rule. However, my main
recommendation is on Rock-type, even if you do not plan to use it in this
battle. This is because when you start the second battle, your first Pokémon
shall be forced to stay a constant, so having a Rock-type versus the Zubat will
make the battle much easier. Other than that, Wurmple and Silcoon are, as
always, pretty weak Bug Pokémon with their only claim to danger being their
Poison Sting - do bring along some Antidote, just in case.

If you did as I said to earlier and put a Rock-type Pokémon at the start
of your group, this match should be over fairly quickly. If you did not, then
use whoever you start off with to try and take it out - if you cannot do that
(but only wear it down), then change to somebody who has a type-advantage or has
no type-disadvantage against Zubat - the former category would include a Rock-
type, Psychic-type, or Electric-type. After that, attack, and it is game, set,
and match for you.
After you win the two consecutive battles, both of the Galactic Grunts
will run away. Proceed to talk to the old man, and he shall give you the dropped
Works Key and some Honey. With the Key in hand, make your way back all the way
to the Valley Windworks area.

Once you make it to the area, head up to the locked door barring you
from entering the actual plant. Examine it to use your newly-obtained Works Key,
and enter the building. Inside, the Galactic Grunt you fought earlier will be
surprised at your ability to enter, and runs away. Continue left and then north
down the hallway, and talk to the first Grunt standing guard at the doorway to
fight him.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Sometimes, it seems obvious that GAME FREAK is not trying to make the
one-player portion of the game even somewhat difficult. This is one of those
cases, as you face off against a Silcoon whose only assets are Tackle and
Harden. Even if you do not have somebody with a type advantage (and you should,
given the recent occurance of Bug-type Pokémon), it is still almost impossible
to lose this battle. Just let loose your Flying/Fire/Rock Pokémon, and decimate
it quickly with anything that it is inherently weak to.
With the battle over, continue on right, and speak to the Galactic Grunt
in the middle of the area to end up fighting him in a second battle.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Open up with your obligatory anti-Bug-type Pokémon to destroy the
Galactic Grunt's Wurmple. One Pokémon later, he will bring out another Glameow.
As it knows Fake Out, it is possible for it to hit you in its opening move with
a first-strike attack, and also cause you to flinch. This will not put you too
far behind, but it can be annoying if you are maintaining something already such
as Rollout or Fury Cutter. Anywho, as Glameow is a Normal-type, you may want to
bring in whoever you had brought along with knowledge of Rock Smash. Rock
Smash's Fighting-type attribute will, once again, trump a Pokémon with Normal-
type attribute. Otherwise, bring somebody out to use Glameow for experience
fodder.
Finally, continue on to the right of the plant, and talk to the lady
dame at the end, who is the head honcho of the Galactic forces here. After
detailing their plans, we will end up in battle with her.
______________
Commander Mars
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Let your resident electric/rock/psychic type dictate the pace at the
start of the battle, but be careful; her Zubat knows Toxic, which, should you
get poisoned, will rob HP from you in increasing amounts each turn. Because of
this, it is recommended that you do not take the time to build up your own stats
with stats-raising moves or other special effects, but instead focus on quickly
taking out the Zubat.
Galaxy Mars' second Pokémon is the fearsome Purugly. Purugly is the
evolution of Glameow (which, under normal circumstances, does not evolve until
Level 38), and retains a solo Normal type. As such, somebody who knows Fighting
type attacks should be brought to the front. Bringing in an Awakening to this
fight is the most important part, as Purugly knows Hypnosis, which means if you
get hit by it, you are asleep for a random amount of time. Thankfully,
Purugly's remaining arsenal is fairly tame - Growl and Scratch. So long as Mars
does not abuse Growl, you should be able to inflict a reasonable amount of
damage with a Fighting attribute move to take it down relatively easily. Beware
though of what you may think to be your second-last hit on it; Purugly carries
a Berry, which will restore it 10 HP when it's health is lowered to a perilous
level.
After you finally win, Team Galaxy will clear the building and retreat,
and the little girl you saw earlier shall come to meet up with her father. After
the reunion, exit the Windworks, and head west onto Route 205.

Once done making your obligatory Pokémon Center trip, notice that the
bridge leading north on Route 205 that was formerly blocked by Galactic members
is now accessible. This thus marks the next step of our journey, to Eterna
City, home to the next gym.
Across the bridge, head straight north along the dirt road. Past the
isolated tree, you will encounter the first opponent on this long trudge -
Camper Jacob.
____________
Camper Jacob
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
A Fire-type Pokémon certainly is not one we have seen much of so far in
this game, but currently, you should have a good solution to defeating his
Ponyta; a Rock-type Pokémon (or, if you chose Piplup, or even have an already-
evolved Gyrados, a Water-Type Pokémon. Shellos and Buizel can both be picked up
on this Route without a problem as well). Either of them are very resistant to
Ponyta's Ember, and the former to Ponyta's Tackle. Direct a Rock-type or Water-
type attack at Ponyta, and a couple of hits later, it should be down for the
count.
Once finished, head left through the large area of grass, then head
north up the staircase. Run to the right at the top to open the Pokéball for an
X Attack, then go and face Hiker Daniel.
____________
Hiker Daniel
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
With four Pokémon in his lineup, Daniel has by far the largest arsenal
in Route 205. As he starts the match with a Geodude, you should start in reverse
with a Water or Grass-type (Psychics or anybody who knows a Fighting move also
works, but DO NOT bring in Bug types). As Geodude knows Rock Throw, be careful
not to bring anybody in who is weak to Rock-type attacks (Flying, Fire, or the
aforementioned Bug types). Make sure that you go on the attack at the start; if
you let Geodude use Defense Curl, his physical Defense will rise to unfathomable
levels.
After the fall of his first Geodude, Daniel will pull out Machop, who
is a very physical fighter, with two Fight-type moves, Focus Energy, and Leer. A
Flier or Psychic-type will perform very well in this fight, as not only are
Flying-type and Psychic-type moves effective against Machop, but they also take
only half damage from Fighting-type moves (as do Bug types, so use that if you
have no alternative).
For his third choice, Daniel will bring out a second Geodude. Bring out
whoever you used during the first faceoff, or else use somebody fresh who still
has type-advantage. This will finally be followed by a Bidoof. As we all know
from having to fight them countless times already, Bidoof are weak, and this one
is no exception - just do not let the match stray too long, or it may actually
pose a fighting chance through the use of Defense Curl and Growl.
Once done, head north and then down the stairs to the right, and face
off against Aroma Lady Elizabeth, the girl who is looking around in all
directions.
____________________
Aroma Lady Elizabeth
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Although Elizabeth has only one Pokémon, Budew can still be a fairly
annoying Pokémon to deal with. This is partly due to its relatively high level
in comparison to other opponents, but also because of its moveset - Water Sport
to stop the effectiveness of Fire-types, Stun Spore to paralyze opponents, and
Mega Drain to recover Budew's own HP while damaging yours. Because that is the
case, about the only types of Pokémon that will have an advantage in this match
are Flying-types and Poison-types - Flying attacks will hurt Budew because of
its Grass-type attribute, and Psychic attacks because of its Poison-type
attribute. Bring in either of these types of benefactors, and try to kill of
Budew quickly before it can use Stun Spore.
With another win in the bag, head north across the grass patch, and face
off against the ranger girl who is wandering around, Picnicker Siana.
_______________
Picnicker Siana
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Both of Siana's Pokémon are Electric-types, with the former, Shinx,
knowing Tackle and Spark, while the latter, Pachirisu, knows only Spark. Good
types of Pokémon to bring into this match are Grass-types, Rock-types, or your
own Electric-types. Spark will only do half damage against Grass and Electric,
and both Spark (a physical attack) and Shinx's Tackle will fare poorly against
any Rock-types, who should have very high Physical Defense. After you break this
down, it is fairly easy to win, so long as you do not make any major slip-ups.
When you finally win the battle, go and grab some berries from the two
trees, then head left to open the Pokéball for a Pokéball. After, go south and
then back up the staircase to where Hiker Daniel is, then continue north up
another staircase, where you will face off against the Camper Zackary, who is
walking around.
______________
Camper Zackary
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Of course you have faced off against another Geodude just like this.
Two, in fact. Recall back to your previous battle with Hunter Daniel, and
then pull out whatever you used against his own Geodudes to complete the lineup,
then fight against Zackary's Geodude and win.
Make your way across the bridge, and at the end of the trek, you will
face off against another Hiker; in this case, Nicholas.
______________
Hiker Nicholas
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
There's something almost familiar about this...oh right, the fact that
Onix is a Ground/Rock type, just like the Geodudes you have faced before him.
Onix is a bit more dangerous, though; Screech can greatly decimate your natural
defense stats, while Bind is a multi-turn attack that can hit for two to five
turns. Meanwhile, Rage is probably the greatest threat there is; the more times
Onix is struck with an attack, the more powerful Rage will be. As such, it is
quite imperative that you bring in either a Water or Grass-type to strike and
end the battle within two hits before Rage can become too strong.
After the battle, continue on your arduous hike north through the
grasses, and once you get to the mountainous area, head left and pick up an
Insecticide from the Pokéball lying in the corner. After, fight Battle Girl
Kelsey, who is the one walking around in a square nearby.
__________________
Battle Girl Kelsey
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This is another reasonably easy battle, with only one single Pokémon,
who is also weak to some of the members of your team that you have likely been
using less as of late (and thus should have plenty of energy left to fight).
Given that it is a Machop, you can use either a Flying or Psychic-type to get
some super-effective attacks of of it, but with her Machop's level, using your
fight with Chinashi as experience fodder for some of your other Pokémon is not a
bad idea either.
After, talk to the nearby lady facing north to have a showdown with the
final trainer in this area, Picnicker Karina.
________________
Picnicker Karina
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Yes, it IS a Piplup. Since her Piplup knows Peck, bringing in a Grass-
type or Bug-type is out of the question for the moment (unless you have somebody
who is vastly overpowered enough to negate the type advantage, or have a really
powerful Grass attack on someone). The best method to defeat Piplup is to bring
in an Electric-type, such as Shinx or any of the Pachirisu that you may have
caught in this area, and use Spark to harm the Piplup without taking any major
damage back. You may also be inclined to use Pokémon in this battle that have no
advantages or disadvantages against Piplup if needed.
Once finished picking up your last win, head into the nearby house with
the red roof. Talk to the lady inside, and she will let you sleep there with an
automatic recover for all of your Pokémon. Exit outside and head south down the
staircase, and open the Pokéball lying on the ground for a Super Potion. Head
back up the staircase, then head left and north into the Eterna Forest.

Some good Pokémon to pick up here. If you have Pearl version, picking up
Misdreavous here is a very good opportunity, as Psychic, Fighting, and Normal
attacks will not be able to touch this thing. Murkrow is also useful for picking
up; not only is he a Dark/Flying type, but his new Diamond/Pearl evolution,
Honchkrow, can have a very powerful offense.
After Cheryl joins you, head left from the start of Eterna Forest, and
open a Pokéball lying on the patch of ground to obtain an Antidote. Once you
have picked it up, head east from the entrance, then north. Once you make it

For your side of the battle, a Fire-type Pokémon will REALLY keep the
tide of the battle in your favor. If you lack such a type, then bring in a Rock-
type Pokémon who has type advantage against Bug types and cannot be easily hurt
by the Pachirisu's Physical attacks. Once you knock out Pachirisu, you could
then switch to a Flying-type that you may have on-hand and then use it to sweep
the remaining trio of Bug Pokémon.
After you have finished winning the battle, continue on north and pick
up a Paralyze Heal from the Pokéball lying on the ground. Continue west, then
head south, where you will face off against two Psychics, Lindsey and Elijah.

It has been awhile since you encountered an actual Abra battle (the
last one being your first visit to Jubilife City), but now you should have a
couple of counters to defeat the Psychics' Abras. The first is to use pure Bug-
types (meaning that they do NOT have Poison-types, or the Abras' Psychic-type
attribute version of Hidden Power will hit them for double damage) and use Bug-
type attacks to deal double damage against the Abras. The other strategy that
one can utilize is to bring in Pokémon that know the Dark-attribute move Bite so
far - Zubat, Turtwig, and Shinx so far are all capable of learning it (and their
evolutions a bit later). Being Psychic-types, the two Abras will be weak to
this. Even if you do not have either at hand, however, do not fret too much -
Chansey on her own should be able to deal with the Abras, so insofar as long as
you bring in one of your own strong Pokémon, you should not worry too much about
losing.
Once done picking up another win for your doubles team, head south and
grab a Great Ball from the Pokéball lying in the southwest corner of the large
grass patch. Next, head straight right, where you will then battle with two more
Bug Catchers.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
As the lineup is composed purely of Bug Pokémon (with one Bug/Poison
type in Dustox), you should have a clear advantage; you can choose Fire, Flying,
or Rock Pokémon as needed be, and with that in hand, you should have no problem
putting away all five of your foes in short fashion - this is made even easier
by their low levels. Just remember to switch out on the off chance your own
Pokémon gets injured.
Having finished your battle, head all the way right to the southeast
corner, and pick up a Potion from the Pokéball in the grass. After, go back left
just a slight bit, then head north until you face off against two more Psychics,
who are also the last trainer duo in this area.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The real threat here, believe it or not, may be Psyduck - with his
ability to use Disable, which blocks you from using one move for the rest of the
battle (and can do it to each Pokémon), if you are using one-trick ponies, you
may want to reconsider your line-up. Bring in a Grass or Electric-type who know
at least one of their respective elemental attacks, and use it to quickly deal
damage to Psyduck before he can use Disable on you, proper. After he falls,
switch out your current Pokémon for a Bug-type or Flying-type; since Meditite is
Psychic/Fighting type, he can be hit on either type with weaknesses.
Now that you are done with fighting in the general area, progress along
with your journey through the forest by heading east and north from here.
Continue all the way west until you hit the end of the line, then grab a
Honey from the grass patch. Head north, then continue back east, ignoring the
trees for now (as you cannot cut them). After reaching the end, Cheryl will
thank you and leave. Follow after her into Route 205.

to the second fisherman in the line to face off against Fisherman Joseph.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT bring in a Grass Pokémon OR Bug type to fight
your battle for you. Type weaknesses aside, Goldeen naturally knows Peck, which
is a Flying-type attack - the perfect counter for any Grass or Bugs you may
choose to bring out onto the field. Instead, bring in another natural that also
has no disadvantage against Peck - an Electric-type. Pachirisu or Shinx will
both work, so long as either of them knows an Electric-type attack. After
wielding your attack, you should have no problem winning.
Once done, put one of your Pokémon in the front of your line-up that
desperately needs levels, and fight the next trainer in line (this one facing
right), Fisherman Andrew by talking to him.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
I do not believe there really needs to be much said. With a legion of
Magikarps whose primary (and only) move is Splash, Andrew is for the
experience and money alone - use them as fodder to get some EXP onto a lower-
level Pokémon.
With one more person left, continue down and talk to Fisherman Zachary.

This is just a mix of the last two battles - two joke Magikarps and a
Goldeen with the exact same move set, but a level weaker. Use your strategy
against Joseph to defeat the Goldeen here, and pummel the Magikarps.
Now that you are done sweeping your foes in the general area, head north
at the end of the bridge to grab some berries. Also while here, head to the
northeast corner of the grass patch which is bare, and examine the space to
obtain a Honey. Next, head south of the bridge and left to obtain a Potion
in the southwest corner. Go back up, and then right into Eterna City.

PRE-BATTLE PREPARATIONS: After a bit of dragging on, we have reached the
next gym. Given that Eterna has a Grass-based gym (along with some Bug-types),
Fire-types will dominate here, and so if you chose Chimchar at the beginning of
the game, use him with zeal. If you lack a suitable Fire-type, then you should
go to Route 211, northeast of Eterna City, and pick up a Ponyta - he will learn
Ember at Level 16, sure to be a detriment to any opponents.
Also of use are Flying-type Pokémon. Starly and its evolution, Staravia,
coupled with the power of Wing Attack, are very helpful here, also being able to
defeat both Grass and Bug-types.
Of interest are any Psychic or Dark-types you may have up your sleeves
(or even any Pokémon that can use Psychic or Dark-attribute attacks); Psychic
attacks are very effective against any Pokémon with a Poison-type, and Dark
attacks are good against Bug-types. Be warned about pitting a Psychic type
against a Bug-type, however; Psychic-types are weak to Bug-attacks, and some of
your foes are pure-Bug, meaning you cannot attack a Poison weakness.
Inside, talk to the Gym Leader Gardenia, who stands at the front of the
first door. She will force you to duel her four underlings before you can do
battle with Gardenia herself. Head into the arena, which is a forest area. Go
straight north from here until you reach the green Gym Leader's pedestal, then
head left from there a short distance and then south into a dead end. Talk to
Lass Caroline, who is standing to the left at the end, hidden by some trees.
_____________
Lass Caroline
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Caroline's first Pokémon, a Cherubi, should not be too difficult to
counter; it lacks powerful attacks or defense, and its only trump card is the
ability to use Leech Seed. Send out an effective starter to crush it in a couple
of turns or even with an one-hit knockout. If by the end of the first round your
own Pokémon has a Leech Seed on it, switch it out for someone else to fight her
Roselia. As Roselia knows Stun Spore and Mega Drain, both attacks which can
become relatively annoying, make sure you have somebody who can take her out
before she can attack; a Psychic-type can work wonders ehre for doing this.
After scooping up a victory, head back up, then head left and down. At
the branch, head left and then down past the rocks, then right. Talk to the girl
hiding above a tree at the dead end here to face off against an Aroma Lady.
________________
Aroma Lady Jenna
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Jenna's entire team is composed of Budew, with all the same attacks. Do
not bother bringing in a Fire-type here, as Water Sport will ensure that your
attacks are weakened. Instead, bring in a Flying or Psychic type whom you can
use to take advantage of Budew's Grass and Poison types, respectively. Hit hard
and do not be afraid to switch out after you get paralyzed by Stun Spore - after
all, all three Budew know the move, so you may as well save your Paralyze Heal.
Head back to the entrance of the forest, then go north a slight bit, and
head right into the area with three shrubs. Go up and head behind the three
shrubs, and talk to the Aroma Lady hiding behind the second shrub to battle her.

Aroma Lady Angela
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Facing off the game's Grass Starter, you shall obviously have a bit more
difficult time than the previous two fights, especially since Turtwig actually
knows Razor Leaf, a move that's effective enough to decimate a lot of Pokémon
weak to it. However, Turtwig is also only one Pokémon, and it lacks any status
effect moves, so plan ahead and bring in somebody strong to counteract it. Any
Fire-type or Flying-type should get some love in this battle, considering how
unable Turtwig will be able to beat it.
Now go back to the entrance again, but this time, head right, and then
far north to the northeastern-most section of the room. Head left at the very
end into a small chamber, and talk to the Beauty Lindsay, who is hanging out
in the bottom-left corner of the trees here to get into a fight.
______________
Beauty Lindsay
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Bring in the same Pokémon you did against Caroline's Roselia to fight
Lindsay, who also uses a single Roselia. As the only difference between the two
is that this Roselia knows Poison Sting and is a few levels higher, you should
not have too much of a difficult time taking the battle.
With the defeat of all four underlings, head to the entrance, and go
straight north to the Gym Leader's pedestal. Talk to Gardenia, who is now here,
and proceed to fight her in a battle.
___________________
Gym Leader Gardenia
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Watch out once you face Gardenia's Cherubi. It knows Grass Knot, which
deals more damage to Pokémon that are heavier (you can check their weight in the
individual Pokémon status screen or the Pokédex). This obviously means that
(besides the type-disadvantage), you do NOT want to bring in an Onix. Even some
other ace in the holes that you may have been using so far might be too heavy to
fight properly against Cherubi. As a rule of thumb, it may be prudent to start
off with somebody under 50lb to a max of around 75lb, with the lighter being the
most effective. If you bring in someone who fits into this category that still
has the type advantage, you should not have much difficulty beating Cherubi, who
lacks effective attacks other than Grass Knot.
Next up is Turtwig. Besides also having Grass Knot, he knows Reflect,
which allows him to put up a barrier that halves any damage done to him by a
Physical attack. At this point in time, likely the only Special attack that any
of your Pokémon know that will be super-effective against Turtwig is Ember (or
Hidden Power if you teach that to any Fire or Flying-type Pokémon). Of course,
you may also wish to strike it before it can strike you (or put up Reflect).
Roserade will cause the biggest problem. In addition to the almighty
Grass Knot, she also knows Poison Sting, Stun Spore, and Magical Leaf. The
former two are both annoying status effects, while the latter is an always-
strike Grass attack. To win this battle, you will have to pull out all the stops
and bring in your strongest Pokémon, and do battle until either of you faints.
Just make sure not to delay the battle too long, or else Gardenia will use Super
Potion.
After you win, you will obtain the Forest Badge, along with TM86, which
teaches Grass Knot. Having finally gotten your second badge, exit the building.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Inside, talk to the two Galactic members walking around if you wish;
however, once you are done, head up to the northeastern section of the room and
try to advance. You will be blocked by a double team of Galactic Grunts.
_______________________________________________________________
Team Galactic Grunt 1 and Team Galactic Grunt 2 (Double Battle)
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
As the first pair of Galactic Grunts will start off with a Zubat and
Wurmple, you should start off with a Psychic/Electric/Rock type (if using the
former, watch out for Zubat's Leech Life) and Flying/Fire type to gain the
immediate advantage. Take the initiative and direct both attacks at Zubat -
Wurmple is basically useless in a battle, whereas Zubat can cause some damage
with Supersonic, or even stop an attack with Astonish or Bite. If Nyaruuma is
the next one called out, then eliminate it quickly as well with a double attack
so that it cannot use Hypnosis to put you to sleep. After both of the threats
are eliminated, you can go and mop up Wurmple and Cascoon, both of who are
relatively uneventful and easy to defeat.
Once you have made the victory, head up the stairs now that you have no
resistance to fight through. Up a level, head down and talk to the Galactic
Grunt sitting at the lower left table to face off against your first foe on this
floor.

Team Galactic Grunt 1
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Start off with whatever Pokémon you commonly use against Bug-types to
take on Galactic 1's Wurmple. Since Wurmple is Wurmple, it's a fairly useless
Pokémon, and low Defense stats means that you should have no problem hitting it
with a one-hit knockout.
Zubat is actually a reasonable match if you are using somebody who is on
par with his own level, as he can first use Supersonic to confuse you, and then
either Bite or Astonish, both of which have a chance of making you flinch,
rendering you unable to attack much of the time. Given its Flying/Poison-type
attributes, you can use either an Electric, Rock or Psychic attack; however,
since it knows both Bite AND Leech Life, an Electric-type or Rock-type attack is
highly recommended.
Talk to the third Grunt sitting at a table (going from left to right)
for a single Pokémon battle.

Team Galactic Grunt 2
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This fight is ridiculously easy, as it is a lone Silcoon you are going
up against. Even without type advantage, this should be a surefire win, thanks
to Silcoon's meager stats and weak attack(s).
That is all for this level. Now move up the next staircase in the
northeast corner, and up top, try to move right from your original position. You
will then be confronted by the third solo Grunt.

Team Galactic Grunt 3
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Bring in a Fire-type/Flying-type to pick off the first two Pokémon, a
Silcoon and Wurmple respectively. As usual, they are not very tough to defeat,
but can still be dangerous if they manage to use their Poison Sting; in this
case, make sure you have an Antidote handy. For the third Pokémon, a Zubat, the
fight may be relatively more difficult, but still should not be too difficult.
You can easily finish it off with an Electric or Rock or Psychic type, but
again, watch for it's Leech Life attack if using Psychic.
Finally, continue on right and then up to try and reach the stairs, and
you will be halted by the Scientist Rudolph.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
At last, you will be facing off a Psychic-type Pokémon. These are tricky
to fight off, as often, you will either not have somebody with a type-advantage
against them, or your Pokémon will have a Poison-subtype which renders them weak
to Psychic-type attacks. Since you likely will not have a Dark-type Pokémon yet,
good substitutes include pure-Bug types such as Kricketune (who can use Fury
Cutter or Leech Life) or Pokémon who know Dark attacks such as Bite. Once you
have that, the verdict is in for Kadabra.
After you have defeated the good scientist, head upstairs. Talk to the
hostage if you wish, but then speak to Team Galactic Jupiter to face off against
Galactic's latest agent.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Agent Jupiter starts off with a high-level Zubat, which is much stronger
than all the past Zubats in this building. With Bite and Astonish in its
arsenal, you NEED to use something that isn't Psychic in this match; Rock types
are also out of the game thanks to Zubat's Giga Drain, which not only hurts with
its Grass-atribute, but also helps Zubat regain life.
Skuntank is a different story altogether, thanks to his Poison/Dark
types. Using Psychic, Bug, or Fighting-type attacks won't work as the opposite
type will negate your advantage. In fact, only Ground-type attacks will be super
effective against Skuntank. At this point in time, the only Pokémon you might
have that know a Ground-attack are Geodude and Graveler, the former of whom
learns Magnitude at Level 15. Geodude/Graveler is also a good choice to use as
Defense Curl and Rock Polish can be used to counter Skuntank's Screech and
Smokescreen, while you can whip out an Antidote for use on Poison Gas. Another
strategy you can use is to switch Pokémon out constantly and wear down
Skuntank's stats with stats-lowering moves; since this will be your last battle
in the Tower, it does not matter what happens, so long as you win.
Having finally dispatched the boss, some small talk will go down, and
Team Galactic will evacuate the building. Afterwards, the bicycle shop guy will
leave the premises. Follow him down and out into Eterna City again.

Outside, cut your way through the bushes. Make your obligatory stop at
the Pokémon Center, then head to the Bike Shop, which is directly south of the
Pokémon Center. Enter the building, and inside, talk to the man at the counter,
who will give you a free Bike in return for your saving him. This will help to
add some speed to your transportation.
Now, you have two choices as to what to do right now. You can either
continue on in the game by heading off to the Cycling Road, or you could take a
quick distraction and go to Route 211. For the time being, I shall document the
latter. To make your way to Route 211 itself, you must first go onto the road
directly north of the Pokémon Center, then head east all the way past a statue
of the Legendary God Pokémon of whichever version you are playing, then into
Route 211.

Out in Route 211, go straight north and examine one of the empty spaces
in the grass patch for a hidden Poké Ball. Afterwards, head down a bit, and then
right. In the grass next to a rock wall, you should see what looks like a
boulder, but do not let the camouflage fool you; it is a Ninja Boy disguising
himself. Approach him to face off against Zach.

Ninja Boy Zach
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Hurray for a trio of annoying Zubats. Preferably bring an Electric-type
or Rock-type over a Psychic-type into this match, as all three Zubats have Leech
Life AND Bite; however, keep another Pokémon on backup that is also effective
against the Zubats in case your starter gets confused by Supersonic. As being
confused may be a pain, you may want to switch to someone else to make use of
the fodder for experience.
Having claimed victory, head down south a bit through the grass patches,
then progress right across the bridge. Once reaching across the opposite side,
you should face off against the Hiker Louis.
___________
Hiker Louis
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This is actually a pretty basic fight. Louis' Geodude and Onix are
barely stronger than when you fought Gym Leader Roark back in Oreburgh City, and
you have likely leveled up large amounts by now. Bring in whatever team you used
then (or a reformed team, as long as it's stacked with Fighting, Grass, and
Water attacks) to pummel both the Geodude and the Onix in short order.
Afterwards, destroy the Rock which is behind Louis, and go down and to
the left. You should instantly face off against Bird Keeper Alexandra once you
reach the bottom of the stairs.
_____________________
Bird Keeper Alexandra
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Hoothoot is a fairly high-level Pokémon compared to the battles before;
however, if you have been getting any time in with your Electric or Rock-type
Pokémon, you should bring them in. The only thing to be aware of is that since
Hoothoot knows Reflect (which halves damage done by Physical attacks), you
should bring in somebody fast; any Rock-type or Electric-type attacks you have
likely learned so far on any of your Pokémon will be Physical, unless you use
Hidden Power. As it is, bring in somebody to hit hard and fast, then as soon as
he uses Reflect, bring down Hoothoot's Defense stats if he doesn't fall in the
first strike. Also make sure you have a couple of Awakenings on hands to
counteract Hoothoot's Hypnosis.
Now that you are done defeating the triad of trainers here, head
straight south from Bird Keeper Alexandra. Lying on the ground at the end of the
path is a Pokéball containing TM12.
At this point in time, you CAN enter the cave (part of Tengan Mountain)
next to Hiker Louis; however, at the current moment, you will be unable to do
anything but for training and catching whatever Pokémone may be in there. This
is because you have a number of boulders in there, and you will need Strength to
get anywhere, which is later in the game.

To do so, go the Pokémon Center building, and enter the house to the right of
