Xbox

Review by SClemmons

"In the words of the great Emptyeye: "No!, the reviews gotta be the full 20K. It has to crush the reader, like an X-Box would""

Sure the synopsis is only casual joking, and the Xbox won't crush anyone in real life. Expect small children and un-expecting pedestrians. But, compared to most other systems at the time, or in all of history, it's pretty big. We all know the ''Xbox is teh big'' jokes in and out. They get repetitive and annoying, but happen to be funny too about around 70% of the gaming community. The other 30% are the fans of the green machine manufactured by Microsoft. They're relentless, and love the box with all their heart.

I'll try not to make this a boring run-down of all the systems specs. I'll be honest, and not lie to you; only occasionally will I do so. First off, Microsoft Xbox is the fastest gaming console that's out there on the market today. What do I mean by fastest? It has a 733mhz processor. Compared to the playstation 2's 200mhz processor; it's a lot faster. [I had to mention that incase you couldn't infer it yourself]

What's a MHz?

Simply put: 1Mhz = 1 million cycles per second. It's basically how fast data is processed. The higher the MHz-age, the faster data is processed. [Excluding other system specs]

Now that we're up to date on how fast the system is, let's move on. The Xbox only holds 64 MB of RAM. This isn't a lot by any means, but it's enough to run a system when it's only used for videogames. Your computer might have more, ,and you'll be prompted to laugh at the Xbox's RAM capacity. But, it's not running anything but just a game, while your computer is running an internet browser to read this review. Not to mention countless other things.

Now the we've touched on the basic technical specs, let's move on to the game library. What games you have is probably what matters the most in the consoles 4-year-or-so span on this earth when publishers are designing games for it. Lucky, Xbox has pretty decent third party support. Some companies can't say the same, but I won't take any cheap shots at that; that's playing dirty.

I imagine everyone on earth has heard of ''Halo'' or ''Dead or alive''. These are just a few of the successful franchises that have been brought too the Xbox. Sure, most of the games are geared toward a more mature audience. Which in return means you have a lack of role-playing-games, and an over abundance of titles that should've never seen the light of day. Most of which are never even recognized by the general public. But, since the system is geared towards older gamers, you shouldn't look into it if you're a say: Hardcore Final Fantasy fan. You won't get any satisfaction out of the Xbox.

Xbox is also the first system to come out of America in some time. It's been doing well, considering the fact that most American consoles bomb horribly. Within the first year of release they're never to heard from again.

For us Americans, we got big hands. Thus, the controller is really gigantic. It's set up with two pseudo-joysticks that you place your thumb on. One is on the left and at the top of the controller. The other one is on the right, and at the bottom of the controller. You got 4 buttons that are on the right. Right above these are the black/white buttons. And, finally, two triggers on the back of the controller. [The Xbox controller ''S-type'' is smaller/buttons in different places/looks cooler]

The physical appearance of the Xbox might is daunting to say the least. It's a massive 10lbs and has a giant green emblem in the middle of it. When you press eject, the tray comes out on the left side to take your poor Xbox disc in it humongous frame.

All in all you got a pretty good system. Good thrid party support. Xbox has the graphical power to carry us into the next millennium...wait...nevermind....it's already past.

Final Verdict
How am I going to do this?|

Support = 8
Graphics = 10
Controller = 7
Size = Big

Final = 8

It's a good console any way you look at it. Just because it's microsoft doesn't mean you have to pass it up. I look at it like this: If you're running windows as an OS, then you're just as bad as people that bought an Xbox! YOU SUPPORTED MICROSOFT TOO!
