Warhawk

Review by gitaroo_zowie

"Warhawk, I pretty fun game with a few minor issues."

Now don't get me wrong, I was seriously excited to pick up Warhawk, when I got back from EB games and registered my headset I turned on the game went into my first match and heres the break-down.

Graphics 9/10: Warhawk has some great graphics going for the system. The main thing the caught my eye at first was when I flew up into the sky with the warhawk, the draw distance is so far and the environments are lush and gorgeous. Explosions are quite well down in this game except for when you throw a grenade you got more of a puff from it not a KA-BOOM from it. Character models are really well done with plenty of detail and customization on each of them.

Sound 10/10: From the first time I heard the first song I knew right a way that the music was epic. It has great orchestral music and everything works so well with it especially with your stereo up high, the music is just so enjoyable.

Controls 7/10: Honestly I was disappointed in the controls, I found them very tough to maneuver at first and it takes a while to get use to them. It would also be more preferable to change your weapons with L1 and R1 but the D-pad kind of works ok. Plane controls are quite realistic and thats where the score gets quite a boost, everything with controlling the planes are great and enjoyable, its just the ground combat that is quite tough to learn at first.

Gameplay 9/10: The overall gameplay experience for Warhawk is quite good. It allows for 32 player matches to go on. You and up to 3 friends can play online together on the same PS3 console which is a major plus in some peoples books. There are 5 maps which are split up into 5 areas each so there are 25 maps technically to play a game on. Warhawk's game types are the standard Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF and Zone. Zone reminds me a bit of headquarters on Call of Duty 2, where you capture an area for a certain amount of time and gain points for your team, this also gives people on your team a bigger spawn area and more vehicles to choose from. The only thing that really bugged me was that there wasn't any Bots. Now most people will get mad at me for saying this but having bots to play against in local play would've been good practice for online but its not that big of a deal. Also there has been reports of peoples game consoles freezing and people being demoted ranks for no reason so make sure to watch out for that.

Value 10/10: There are two ways to buy Warhawk one way is on PSN for 39.99 or for retail at 59.99. The retail copy is an overall better deal, for an extra 20 dollars more you get the game with extra trailers and making of videos but the main kicker is the Jabra bluetooth headset. This alone makes the game worth buying for because most PS3 owners do not own mics and the game is still pretty good to boot.

Overall 8/10: Warhawk was quite a fun game with a few minor problems that can be looked over because of the great value and solid gameplay.

Pros:

Music
Headset with retail version
lagless online gameplay

Cons:

Controls are some what hard to learn
No Bots
