X2: Wolverine's Revenge
Review by Lmuit
"Not as cool as 'Spiderman' but still a decent superhero game."
Wolverine's Revenge
''First off, I'm not a fan of the X-Men series. In fact I never even brought this game it came free when I brought a new PS2. Still its a decent game.''
Story
I guess you know how Wolverine was created, he was captured and his body made indestructible. The game begins with you escaping from the place where you were created. Years later you discover that a virus in your body has been activated and you have 24 hours to live. Unless you find a vaccine...
Gameplay
The gameplay is very good. Simple, but fun. The game has a arcade feel to it and pretty much anyone could pick it up and start playing.
Not only do you get to use Wolverine's famous claws but his 'mutant senses'. This means with the quick tap of a button you see what Wolverine sees. The 'mutant sense' means you can see footprints, smells of nearby enemies and it allows you to go into stealth mode. The brilliant thing about this is there is no bar limiting it's use.
Much of the game revolves around fighting several enemies at a time. Its all very fast and looks very cool. Wolverine himself has several attacks and these can all be leveled up as your progress.
Some of the game though is based on stealth. The stealth sections are quite challenging but some of the 'Stealth Strikes' are amazing. 'Strikes' are special moves that happen when you daze an enemy. The are the best and most kick ass moves you can do.
Above the health bar is another bar, this is a rage meter. When it goes red Wolverine will go mad and move faster and his attacks will be twice as powerful. I know that in the films Wolverine can't be killed, the game would be too easy if this was true so instead of invulnerability Wolverine's health regenerates over a space of time providing you have your claws away.
Controls
The controls are simple. Easy to pick up and that's all to say. The buttons are set to unleash kicks, punches and to withdraw/conceal your claws. However they could of done with a training level to help you grasp the controls before they throw you into the main game.
Graphics
Wolverine looks very good but the rest of the graphics are rather average though. It seems like all the enemies are the same. Saying that the cutscenes are very good.
Sound
Patrick Stuart voices Professor X and does a very good job too. The rest of the games sound is pretty good too.
Re-playability
This game is very hard. You will take many attempts at each level. As for re-playability you could play through the game again but its not likely you would want too. You unlock costumes and mini games as you progress so this adds to the replay value slightly. Some of the bosses are extremely challenging too.
Overall
A pretty decent game that fans will love. Others may prefer a slight better type of action game.
Buy or Rent?
If your a fan I recommend you buy this game or if you enjoy fast paced easy to grasp games that offer a challenge then this is for you. Non fans may want a rent but there are better action games out there.
