X2: Wolverine's Revenge

Review by devil triggered

"Pity... There could have been more to this game"

First of all... this is not a crappy game but still dissappointing in a way. Wolverine fans can perhaps do a rental and check it out first before buying, I would not reccomend buying it.

GRAPHICS:

The graphics is not pretty. It's rougher than Logan himself. Come on people, this is the PS2. I'm not asking you to do a MGS2 or FFX graphic, just a prettier graphic. The screenshots showed us nice pictures, unfortunately, when the game gets running, you notice it's not as pretty as it once looked in previews. It's okay but I won't say the graphic is the best feature. They did capture Logan's face quite okay... though Logan looks like he is trying to swallow a jawbreaker. To put it in a straightforward manner, the graphic belongs to a Playstation standard. We have seen prettier graphics in the PS2. The scene? need I say more? It is repeated. Military bases after military bases, I could have gotten nauseous. Activision... you could have done better in graphics.

GAMEPLAY:

This is the first game I found myself using Logan's other mutant capabilities. The super-sensitive-senses of Logan and his healing factor. There is a nice touch, knowing you actually can see the guards stink in the air. However after levels and levels of repetition, Logan's senses start to stink too. The one thing I liked about Logan is his ability to be in some serious brawl when the odds are against him. This game killed my hopes. I was dreaming of a DMC like battle, where hordes and hordes of enemies come after you and you could kick their asses in style. Activision made me play as Logan who have to be careful in fights and suck at hitting targets. Logan moves oh so slowly, like an overgrown wrestler when locked onto a target. In fact, with his claws inside his paws, Logan has better odds. Wolverine is supposed to move much more faster dude. There is a saving grace though to the atrocities Logan performed in combat, the STRIKE moves. They are quite a sight after you get the advanced ones. Style in kicking ass, that's the wolvie we know. The enemies are very badly designed. You fight tonnes and tonnes of military types. Not the MARVEL baddies type. Plus, they fight like they were all taught by the very same guy. Like Star Wars... you kick baddies who actually look like they were bloody twins/triplets/quadruplets/or whateverplets. The bosses? Man was it frustating to fight them. You had almost nil ideas on what to do. I didn't what to do when I had to face the bosses one by one. Again... Activision could have done better.

STORYLINE:

Fortunately, the story was nice. I liked it. It actually made sense where the other features of the game seems to be forcing me to take out the CD and pop in another game. The game has a storyline that motivates the idea of the missions. It actually made sense for Wolvie to go to those areas buuuuuut... like i said, the missions are actually mediocre gaming experience. You get me? Nice story, motivating plot but poor execution of gameplay. So yes, this game actually got a storyline to back it up. Not totally an abuse of the hype, it's half the hype and half the story in my opinion. There is a character who is actually supposed to be dead though... but then again, no spoilers eh. Congrats Activision, you did the story good.

SOUND:

Ahhh... how I love the SNIKT! and SNAKT! sounds. Yes, I did the pop and in again thing. It was fun... Oh the voice acting!! The voice acting!! It was superb, superb and superb. Mark did real good, he made Logan sound like Logan. Gruff, nice, neat and good. Didn't know the force could make you sound awesome (yes, he was Luke). Patrick? Nice job too Patrick. He did dome-head good. You know what... the sound was done perfect. The dialogue that is.

Sooooo MARVEL fans, what to do? Go get a rental, if you like it then get it. Otherwise I won't reccomend the game unless you have an extra $50 to spend on a copy. Even for the Wolverine fans... I would reccomend a rental before reccomending purchase. It is a decent game but is it worth the $50 sacrifice? You decide. I say a rental is fine but a purchase is up to an individual's decision. Go rent it before buying.
