X2: Wolverine's Revenge
Review by jaba35
"Very frustrating, yet fun and addictive."
I have played a lot of games in my past but I can honestly say that I have never played one that frustrated the crap out of me but yet I found myself going back for more. When you play a game that makes you regret starting over at the beginning of the level then the game sucks. However, Wolverine's Revenge is an exception to that rule. I really enjoyed this game. From the graphics to the music to the voice over's to the game play, this game had me hooked and it's not because I'm a Wolverine fan.
Graphics= 8/10. For the most part, everything was superb but there are times when you wonder if the person who created this game was blind. As you get deeper into the game you will see what I mean. Thank God for Wolvie's keen senses.
Music and Sound= 9/10. Everything seem real to me. The soldier's firing at you, the explosions, the electricity; everything seemed to fit the environment. Nothing seemed out of place in this game.
Extras= 10/10. Oh boy do you get some good stuff in this one. Especially the costumes. You have the chance of receiving a variety of good costumes from Wolvie's past. It's good to know that your favorite hero will not be dressed the same way through the whole game. The costumes is a great way to break the monotony of a game. Then you have the Cerebro files which I find interesting. You really have to earn some of them and to me they are worth it. Then you have Dog Tags which like the files, you really and I mean really have to earn.
Story= 9/10. I have read alot of Wolvie's books and I must say that this story is one of the most intriguing ones I have seen. His character is everything and more in this game. The only thing I wish was that there would have been more supporting characters in the game. Oh well, the ones that are in it make up for it. The villains are just awesome and evil just like the comics. On the other hand I wish there were about three more. I won't spoil it for you.
Game play= 7/10. I know, I know I said this was addictive. It is, there are just a few things that really bite. I'll be brief that the camera angles during stealth mode were awkward and sometimes during boss battles, the camera really screws up the point of contact. But to be honest, that's it as far as being problems. However those two things really angered me sometimes. It always seem to happen when there was something really important about to happen. However, the best point about the game play is the combos you learn, the special attack skills and the Feral Rage are very easy to learn and master and they really help out when you need a little extra something to help in battle.
Sp overall. I give it a 8/10. Now the question is, do I buy it or rent it? Well, I suggest, (even if you are not an X-Men fan) that you buy this game. It is really addictive and fun to play. I don't think renting it will do it justice in the short time you have to play it. So buy it and take your time to master all the fighting skills in the game and enjoy it.
