Final Fantasy X is among the most densely covered games on GameFAQs.com, so
the question of why I chose to write a guide for it had to be asked. Well,
I chose to write a guide for it because it's one of my favorite games of
all time. In multiple play-throughs I've clocked hundreds of hours in the
game. The next logical step, to me, would be to do a guide for it. So yeah,
my decision to do a guide for it was more me to have fun, then to help
anyone else out. Don't get me wrong though. This guide will definitely be
able to help you if there's something you want to know about the game. In
addition to a fully-complete walkthrough through the game's main story, and
an indepth guide on every single sidequest, you'll also find more information
than you could possibly use on each of the monsters, and blitzball players.
And of course, I have not neglected information on aeons, abilities, items,
the monster arena, and customization. All that and more is in this guide.
So, have fun reading it, and praise be to Yevon.

If you have anything, anything at all, to contribute to this FAQ, send me
an e-mail at GermanDragon[at]gmail[dot]com. If what you send is useful to
this FAQ, I'll add it and credit you.

Battle Screen
==---------==
1) In the upper right corner of the screen, you'll see the CTB box. This
shows the current turn order, from top to bottom. More on that can be found
in the section just below this one.

2) In the lower left corner of the screen you'll see the command box. Here
you can select Attack, Magic, Items, and any special abilities your character
may have. You can press Left if there is a trigger command or overdrive
available for use at that time to bring up a new menu. You can also press
right at any time to change the menu to one that includes the ability to
change equipment or try and escape from battle.

3) In the lower right corner of the screen you'll see you're characters'
names, their HP and MP, and a yellow bar that represents their overdrive
meter. Depending on which overdrive mode they have it will be filled by a
variety of possible events. When it's filled, your character will be capable
of performing an overdrive.

4) In the upper left corner of the screen, there will be a box if a monster
is selected. If the monster is immune to sensor it will just show his name.
If not, it will show his HP as well as the elements he is weak and strong
against. Across the top of the screen, a marquee of text will scroll, giving
you a bit more information about the monster.

CTB - Turn Order
==------------==
Battles in Final Fantasy X are simple to understand, despite having many
complex workings going on underneath the surface. The first thing that you
should know about is the CTB system. In the upper right corner of the screen
you'll see a box with your characters' faces and icons representing the
enemies. From top to bottom, this represents turn order. It's not static,
and it's not "fair" per say. The order initially goes by characters and
monsters Agility stat value. However, many other things also come into play.
If a target is inflicted with Haste or Slow, that will effect order. If a
player sends a character into battle with the ability "First Strike" that
will also effect the order. Additionally, and something less obvious is that
all commands -- from items, to attacks, to overdrives, to magic -- have a
different "rank" for how much delay they cause on the user. This effects
how long it will be before they get a turn again. Quick Attack has an
incredibly low rank -- it's not unusual for your character to get two turns
or more in a row by using Quick Attack. However, something like Bahamut's
Mega Flare would be considerably higher; In that case your opponent would
probably get in several turns before you get to issue a new command.

Status Effects
==----------==
As is usually the case in RPGs, there are a variety of status effects in
the game. All of these affect the inflicted target differently. Furthermore,
each fiend has a different amount of resistance to different status effects.
The exact resistance of each fiend to each status effect is covered in the
bestiary, but here you'll find information on each of these status effects.

Silence -> The inflicted target can no longer cast magic attacks.
Poison -> The inflicted target loses a % of its Max HP each turn.
Slow -> The inclicted target recieves its turn later than usual.
Sleep -> The target is asleep, and incapable of using commands.
Doom -> A countdown appears over the target. At zero the target dies.
Threaten -> The target becomes incapable of attacking.
Provoke -> The target focuses its attack on the user of Provoke.
Blind -> The target's accuracy drops dramatically.
Zombie -> Healing items will harm the target,
Death -> Instant death for fiends; Instant KO for your characters.
Delay -> The target's next turn will come later than usual.
Power Break -> The target's attack drops.
Armor Break -> The target's defense drops, and it loses Protect or Armored.
Magic Break -> The target's magic drops. This also removes Shell.
Mental Break -> The target's magic defense drops.
Eject -> The target is launched from battle and can not be returned.
Berserk -> The target will only attack; You lose control of your character.
Curse -> The character will be unable to perform Overdrives.
Confused -> You lose control of the target; They'll then only perform
physical attacks on their own party members.
Armored -> Fiends with this have high resistance agaisnt weapons without
                Piercing customized onto them.
Petrify -> It equals death for fiends. It's like KO for allies, but can
be cured only by a Soft, rather than a Phoenix Down.

The sphere grid is a system of leveling and character development created
for and exclusive to Final Fantasy X. To describe it at its simplest level,
you defeat enemies to gain experience, and ultimately Sphere Levels. You
then use these sphere levels to move about the grid, and use different
types of spheres to activate the nodes found on the grid. There are all
sorts of different nodes. Some give abilities, others raise stats. There
are then locked nodes where you must use a key sphere in order to pass.
The system is designed so that all characters have their own section of the
grid, but so that it is indeed all one grid. As you progress through the
game, you'll have the option to move any character into anothers section,
creating a unique character to your liking.

The nodes found on the sphere grid are as follows:

Tidus is the star player of the Zanarkand Abes -- or that's what he was
before he was swallowed up by Sin, and sent hurdling 1,000 years into the
future. He now finds himself in Spira, a world that is very strange to him.
He quickly gets into the loop though. He becomes Yuna's guardian, he gets
onto Wakka's blitzball team, and everything works out. Most people seem to
think that he's whiny, and lame. I don't know though. He's not a bad main
character. Not everyone can be an Auron or a Barrett. As far as stats go,
Tidus is both fast and strong. His section of the sphere grid contains
some great moves, like Haste and Slow. Send him over to Auron's part of the
sphere grid when he finishes his own, to further increase his attack.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
Auron

Auron was a good friend of Jecht, Tidus's father, and has been watching
over Tidus. When Sin attacked, Auron was taken to Spira along with Tidus,
although he didn't seem to be very shocked about it. Auron is perhaps the
most badass Final Fantasy character to date. In fact, he's cool enough to
make up for us having to use Irvine in FF8! In battle, he's incredibly
strong, although not terribly gifted with magic or speed. From the very
beginning of the game, he's equipped with a Piercing weapon, which helps
alot. His portion of the sphere grid allows him to get moves like Power,
Armor, Mental, and Magic Break. All enemies must be leveled to the ground!

Rikku

Rikku is an Al Bhed, unlike any of the other guardians. Al Bheds are hated
by most of Spira, as they do not follow the teachings of Yevon. Rikku is as
loyal as any of the other guardians though, and is a valuable asset to
your team. She is actually the first person Tidus met when coming to Spira,
although they were separated when Sin attacked, and it was some time before
the others met up with her again. Rikku isn't the fastest or the strongest,
but she can steal, and can use special items right from the get go. Her
part of the sphere grid also contains the incredibly useful Bribe ability.
In order to make her very useful, however, you'll probably want to send her
Tidus and Auron's sections of the grid after she finishes her own.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------=

Wakka is the coach and captain of the Besaid Aurochs -- admittedly, a team
that isn't very good. He's a great guy though, and is willing to help Tidus
out when he finds him washed on the shores of Besaid Island. Of course, he
also knocks him off a cliff into water, and headlocks him from nowhere on
several occassions. At the start of the game, Wakka is a decent fighter.
In fact, due to attacking with a Blitzball, he has the highest accuracy of
anyone in the game. As you move him along the sphere grid, he'll pick up
a lot of status-ailment inflicting moves, such as Dark or Sleep Buster.
Wakka can head towards Auron's section of the sphere grid after finishing
his own.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
Yuna

Yuna is the summoner of the group, and is on her pilgrimage to gain the
final aeon, and defeat Sin. As a summoner, she has high magic stats, and
is the only one in your party that's capable of summoning aeons. She is
also really good with white magic such as Cure, the NulBlaze/Tide/etc.,
and eventually even Holy. Her aeons grow in strength as Yuna does, so if
you want to be able to use them effectively in battle you'll have to level
up Yuna as well. Heading into Lulu's section of the grid is the logical
progression for Yuna.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
Lulu

Lulu is the black mage of the group, and is like a sister to Yuna. She
was a guardian once before, although the summoner she was protecting was
killed. She feels very badly about it, and tries her hardest to keep Yuna
safe. She has strong magic stats, and a very high evasion stat as well.
She will get many of the good black magic spells, such as all of the -ga
suffix magic spells, and Flare. She can also pick up Doublecast. You'll
have to send her over to Kimahri's section of the grid if you want Ultima,
however. Aside from that, heading into Yuna's section is the way to go.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
Kimahri

Kimahri is a Ronso with a broken horn, who has protected Yuna since she
was a small child. Although very large by human standards, Kimahri is rather
small for a Ronso. He doesn't speak much, but he's a pretty strong fighter.
As a Ronso, he's able to learn the fiends' way of fighting, and learn many
moves for his Ronso Rage overdrive. His section of the sphere grid is
almost void of any good moves besides Ultima though. Why that's even there
is anyone's guess. It benefits Yuna and Lulu much more. Kimahri can pretty
much be sent off into anyone's section of the grid from where he starts.

After a short intro at the beginning of the game, the setting will switch to
a crowd awaiting the arrival of the star player of the Zanarkand Abes: Enter
Tidus! Walk across the bridge you start on, and talk to some of your fans.
One of the girls will ask for your autograph. This will give you a chance to
enter a name of your own, if you wish to do so. After you enter your name,
Tidus will do a little bit of flirting with a girl. Next, talk to the group
of small children. After a bit of talking -- and a strange appearence by an
odd spirit-like boy -- Tidus will take off for the Blitzball stadium. It's a
linear path to it, so you should have little trouble. Just walk along the
street, listening to the announcer's story, if you like. It'll fill you in a
bit on the background of Tidus.

When you reach the entrance to the stadium, you'll have to push your way
through a crowd of people, and enter the large archway at the top of the
screen. After that, sit back and enjoy one of the coolest freaking FMV videos
ever. When it's all over, you'll take control of Tidus, who is coming to his
senses on the ground. Walk south, until you run into Auron, a man whom Tidus
knows. Follow him off-screen onto the street area. There, Tidus will again
encounter the strange spirit. "It begins." Soon after the spirit dissappears,
Tidus catches up with Auron. Soon after, they are attacked, and Tidus is
given a [Long Sword].

This is where you'll first dip your feet into the battle system of the game.
Attack the first Sinscale to kill it, and Tidus and Auron will run on to
another wave. Kill the two that are there, as well, and Auron and Tidus will
keep moving. You'll then be completely surrounded by some Sinscales. There
are five of them in total, and they can all attack, but do as Auron says,
and kill only the ones that matter. They would be the three that are in
front of you. Once they're out of the way, Auron and Tidus move forward once
more. They keep moving until they reach another wave of Sinscales, who are
lining up against a much larger foe.

When that exceedingly difficult battle is over, run ahead, following Auron.
You will quickly come across a blue traveller's sphere: Otherwise known as
a save sphere. Stop for a second, and save your game. Then continue on,
after Auron, to the next screen. You'll be surrounded by more Sinscales
before long. Just attack them one at a time -- make sure to target the ones
that have flickering wings first, so that they can't bust out their spines
attack on you the next turn -- until Auron tells you to target the tanker
that's on the side of the road. When he says to do so, begin attacking it
with both characters each turn. It only takes five attacks or so, to cause
the tanker to explode. The building next to you will then crumble.

After the battle, a cutscene ensues. Tidus enters a strange dream-like
state. While like this, hold the circle button to swim downward, and direct
yourself towards the figure on the platform below you. Tidus will then wake
up in a strange deserted ruin area. He calls for someone, but for some reason
the bird sitting on the rock in front of him doesn't want to talk. Welcome
to the Submerged Ruins.

Start by swimming forward, and climbing up the stairs to a platform on the
right side of the area. There's a chest which contains [200 Gil] there. There
is also a message in Al Bhed, which you probably can't read if this is your
first time playing the game. If it is not, head to the left side of the map,
and climb stairs to another platform, to reach an Al Bhed compilation sphere.
What this does, is allow you to download all your Al Bhed primers from another
file to your current one. Walk along the walkway from the compilation sphere,
to find a chest which contains two [Potions]. Once you've emptied the chests,
swim to the platform in the top-center of the map, and walk along the path of
bricks, and up the stairs, to reach the next screen. Upon entering, you'll
see a save sphere which you are advised to use.

Just past the save sphere, is a long path of rocks. Walk along it, and you
will see a cutscene of the bricks crumbling below Tidus. You'll then fall to
the water below. Dive under the water, and swim forward a bit, and you'll be
attacked by some Sahagin, which are a type of fish. Just moments ago, Tidus
was stumbling to hold a sword, and now he's swinging like a master --
underwater no less! Not too shabby! The enemies are not difficult. Just hit
two of them with normal attacks, and you'll see a cutscene of a giant fiend
coming by, and devouring the third. You'll actually be able to defeat this
guy later in the game, but right now, you're far too weak -- and the game
just won't let you. So, hit him four times, and you'll see a cutscene of
Tidus fleeing. Live to fight another day, right?

When you can control Tidus again, you'll be inside the ruins, and you'll
have to do some looking around. Start by heading up the stairs in front of
you. They lead to a large open area, with a camp site in the center of it.
Walk up to the campfire remains, and press X to examine them. You'll be
able to start a fire with the right supplies. Head north, and go through
the door to reach another staircase. At the top of the stairs, you'll find
a [Withered Bouquet] on the wall -- makes perfect timber! Continue to the
next door in the room, to reach a balcony overlooking the main area with the
camp site. Walk along the path to reach a chest containing a [Hi-Potion],
then backtrack to where the campsite is.

This time, head over to the south-west exit of the room. You'll find another
save sphere there. Save your game, then head through the door in front of
you. In this room, is a broken desk. Examine it with the X button, and
you'll find some [Flint] in the drawer. This, combined with the bouquet that
you found earlier can make a camp fire. So, head back to where the campfire
remains are, and press X. Instant fire; Instant cutscene. After a short rest,
and another flashback, you'll see a cutscene of another fiend running along
the walls and jumping down at Tidus.

After the fight, you'll see a cutscene with the people that saved you
speaking another language. If this is your first time through the game,
you probably don't understand it. To elaborate, the men that have Tidus
at gun point say that he is a fiend in human disguise, and that they
should kill it. The girl that fought with you said that she won't allow
it, and that they'll take you with them. As she knocks Tidus out, she
says "Sorry." When you regain consiousness, you'll find yourself out on
the ocean, on a ship.

On the ship, Tidus is again yelled at in another language (Al Bhed). This
time, he is basically being scolded for not understanding the language. One
of them shouts "Insolence!" The girl is able to speak English however, and
again she saves Tidus's butt. When you are done being yelled at, head over
to the save point and save your game. Then, head to the upper-right corner
of the ship to find the [Al Bhed Primer I]. This will allow you to begin to
understand the language. Only twenty-five more should do it! Then talk to
the three guys. The one on the left doesn't speak english, but he'll give
you three [Potions] and tell you to use them if you're in trouble. When you
are ready to move forward, talk to the girl.

First, she'll explain the idea of the sphere grid. Pay close attention if
this is your first time playing the game, as this is the level up process.
Talk to her again after the tutorial ends, and you'll be told that they plan
to salvage a machina that's underwater. You'll then immediately jump in. Do
know, however, that you can climb back on to the ship. In fact, if you do
this, you can talk to one of the Al Bhed guys again, if you wish to repeat
the sphere grid tutorial. Assuming that you want to continue onward, simply
dive, and follow along the chain that extends from the ship, underwater.

Along the way, you'll most likely encounter some Piranha enemies. You'll
have to attack them a few times to take them out, as you are weak at this
stage in the game, but try and grab a grenade or to along the way, before
you eliminate them. Follow the chain, and you'll reach some more underwater
ruins. There, examine the computer console with the X button, to open the
door in front of you. Swim into the room that opens up, and then over to
the hallway on the right side of the map. At the end of the hallway you'll
be attacked by some more Piranhas, but they aren't too bad. You might even
gain a level, which will allow you to move on the Sphere grid! This will
earn you the Cheer ability.

When the piranhas are out of the way, head over to the machine in the center
of the next room, and examine it with the X button. Then, turn around and
begin swimmming through the corridor that brought you to the room. At the
other end, you'll be attacked bty a large squid-like monster. Boss time!

After the fight, swim over to where the girl is, and follow her through a
hole in the fenced wall. In the new area, swim downward to where she is
staying. After a brief camera pan of the area, you'll be taken back to
the boat. If you can understand Al Bhed, you'll hear the men saying that
what they found was an airship. You don't need to worry about that though.

After a funny cutscene of Tidus nearly choking to death on food, the girl
will reveal her name as Rikku. Rikku says that she is Al Bhed. Tidus says
that he is from Zanarkand. The story will theb begin to open somewhat.
According to Rikku, Zanarkand got destroyed it one thousand years ago. She
claims that it may be because of Sin's Toxins, Tidus may be dillusional.
After they finish talking, save your game again, then talk to Rikku once
more. You'll then see a cutscene of Sin attacking the ship, and Tidus
getting knocked off of it, and being swallowed by a whirlpool. You'll be
given a chance to save your game here. When you wake up, you'll be on the
beach of Besaid.

Tidus will wake up, and you can walk over to the sand and meet Wakka, captain
and coach of the Besaid Aurochs: a blitzball team. Before you do that, however,
swim as far to the right as you can. You'll find a hidden patch of sand over
there, and on it is a chest containing the [Moon Crest] -- an item that will
be used in a much later on in the game. Anyway, Tidus is glad to meet some
guys who play blitzball, and accidently lets loose that he is from Zanarkand.
Things get cleared up, though, and Wakka invites Tidus to come to the village
for some food. Don't go just yet, though. First, head around and talk to some
of the Aurochs. If you talk to them twice, you'll be given some items, which
include: [200 Gil], two [Potions], and from another player, three [Potions].
Once you've done this item collecting, head to the top-right corner of the
area and talk to Wakka. He'll confirm Rikku's story, then you can be on your
way. Just make sure to use the nearby save sphere first.

On the next screen follow Wakka to the right, then walk to the end of the
path. Wakka will knock Tidus off of a cliff into the water, then jump in
after him. Evidently, this is the quickest way to the village. That's some
great Spiran engineering for you! Well, just swim along the water, along the
only path available. You'll probably run into a few Piranhas like the ones
you found at the ruins here as well. Wakkas not a bad fighter though, so it
should be easy to take them out. Keep your eyes peeled for a chest along the
way, however. It contains two [Antidotes]. Keep going until you reach an area
where Wakka asks for Tidus's help with his Blitzball team. Tidus agrees,
and then the two continue swimming until they hit land.

Wakka tells a little bit more about himself and his team. Tidus assures
Wakka that with his help, they will win come the big tournament. After they
finish talking, you can walk down the hill in front of you, to the left.
Keep going until you are greeted by two men from the village. When they
leave, just head into the village which is just in front of you. Wakka will
tell you to take a look around. Before he lets you go, however, he'll ask
you if you remember "the prayer." You have to differing choices of "I don't
know" and "I don't remember." Tough choices... Go with your heart, and
either way, Wakka will explain it to you. Tidus knows it as the Blitzball
sign for victory, but oh well.

AS for things to do, you can start by opening the chest directly to your
left for a [Phoenix Down]. The house it is in front of is a shop which sells
a few basic items (shown a little below.) If you walk around the house to
the left, you'll find three more treasure chests. Open them for two [Potions],
[400 Gil], and a [Hi-Potion]. After picking up the items, head into the
building north of the item shop. There, you can meet the Crusaders that you
meant a bit earlier, and find out about them. They are people that fight
against Sin. On the floor in the lodge, you can also find a copy of [Al Bhed
Primer II]. Across the village, there are a few more houses to enter, and
people to talk to, but there's no more items to pick up. Everyone is telling
you to head to the summoner at the temple. So you might as well.

Potion ................................................... 50G
Antidote ................................................. 50G
Phoenix Down ............................................ 100G
    o----------------------------------------------------------------o

Head north of the town to find the temple. Simply head inside from the front
door. As you enter, you'll see another cutscene where the camera pans around
the room, and Tidus reflects on his thoughts. Walk forward, and Tidus will
look at a large statue. A priest will explain a little bit about Yevon, the
religion that Spira holds. After he finishes talking, you can leave the
temple. Head back to the main area of the village, and head into the middle
house on the right side of town. There, you'll find Wakka. Talk to him and
agree to take a nap, when you are ready to advance the plot.

Wakka will leave while Tidus is sleeping. You'll then be shown a scene from
Tidus's memory. When Tidus wakes up, he'll be alone. Head back to the temple,
and speak with Wakka. He tells of how summoners go through cloisters in
order to pray. It is forbidden to those that are not summoners are guardians
of summoners to enter these cloisters. Of course, Tidus isn't a follower of
Yevon, so he rushes in without thinking. Thankfully, this temple isn't all
that boring or difficult. Know, however, that in addition to making it
through each of the temples, they all also hold a hidden item. You'll want
to make sure to grab this item in all of the temples, as they are the key
in summoning a hidden Aeon later in the game. With that, let's get on with
the solutions to this one.

^-^-^-^-^ Besaid Temple ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^

1) Touch the yellow glyph on the wall in front of you, in the first room.
2) Touch the green glyph that appears on the wall to the right of you.
3) Head down the stairs and touch the glyph on the wall for a glyph sphere.
4) Head down the next flight of stairs, and put the sphere in the door.
5) When the door opens, take the sphere out of it again.
6) Walk down the hall, and put the glyph sphere in the recess on the left.
*) This reveals the destruction sphere.
7) Keep going until you reach a pedestal, and touch the symbols near it.
8) Head down the new hallway, and take the Besaid Sphere from the wall.
9) Place the Besaid Sphere in the pedestal.
10) Put the Destuction Sphere in the recess you got the Besaid Sphere.
**) This reveals the hidden chest. Open it for the [Rod of Wisdom].
11) Push the pedestal near the secret hallway forward, onto the switch.

^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^

Wakka will catch up with you just as you push the pedestal onto the switch,
revealing an elevator-like platform. He tells that he is in fact a guardian.
You'll then meet the other guardians: Lulu, the black mage, and Kimahri, the
Ronso. You'll also meet the summoner Yuna, who has just finished praying to
a fayth. Just after, the screen will skip to Tidus, Yuna, and the guardians
leaving the cloister of trials. They are all so happy that Yuna is ok, and
has become a summoner, that none of them are yelling at Tidus! Not bad. I
wish there were summoners around when I fall asleep in school. Anyway...

Exit the temple, and walk towards the town center. Wakka will drag Tidus
over to where Yuna is, in a headlock. Yuna will then proceed to summon an
Aeon -- that is, a creature that summoners call to help fight -- so that
everyone may see it. This one is a flying beast named Valefor. However, if
you wish, you can give it another name. Another cutscene follows, where
Tidus is introduced to the Besaid Aurochs. It's actually a funny scene. The
concept of trying to win is very confusing to those poor guys.

After they finish talking, head to the south of the area, to meet Yuna --
after an old lady calls you a heathen, and a girl calls you a bad man. They
didn't forget after all, huh? What will then happen, is Wakka asks you if
you think Yuna is cute. Your response isn't all that important, but it does
have to do with an affection system: Which characters like you more than
others. It affects a few cutscenes throughout the game. If you want more
information on this, check out the Affection section of this guide. When you
are ready to advance the game, talk to Wakka and tell him that you're ready
to go to sleep. The next time you control Tidus, will be in a dream.

Walk along the wooden dock and talk to Yuna. She asks Tidus to take her to
Zanarkand. Rikku then shows up, and a small argument insues. To make things
even foggier, Jecht shows up, and talks down on Tidus. Weird stuff. Tidus
hates his father, as you'll come to realize real soon. Tidus wakes up
screaming, and then overhears an argument between Wakka and Lulu. Wakka
tells Tidus about his brother Chappu, who died while fighting Sin. When the
scene ends, it's a bright new day. Make sure to use the save sphere that's
near the bed to save your game.

Leave the tent, and you'll find Wakka and Lulu outside. Wakka will give you
a new sword. It's actually pretty damn cool looking, and is really useful.
In fact, aside it'll be a while before you can customize anything better.
It is automatically equipped, so you don't have to worry about doing anything.
And with that, Tidus and the others will then head off from Besaid Village.
What is to follow, however, is a series of disguised combat tutorials. You
just have to keep moving forward, and do as you are told as the battles
commence. They aren't tough at all.

The first battle is against a Dingo. Use your new Brotherhood sword to take
it down. It will then be replaced by a Condor: a flying enemy. Flying enemies
are Wakka's game. Hit it with a blitzball to take it down, to end the fight.
The next fight that you get into will be a Water Flan. Tidus will go on the
offense. Hit it with his sword; You'll see very little effect. This will cue
Lulu to come in, and explain how the elemental system works. You know: Ice
beats fire, lightning beats water, water beats lightning, and fire beats
Ice. This is a Water Flan, so nail it with a Thunder spell to spell "death"
for the blob of jello.

On the next screen, you'll see a brief cutscene of Yuna and Lulu looking
down at the village. The group will then stop to pray at a statue, as it is
a tradition for travellers leaving the island. You can choose to have Tidus
pray or not. This also has to do with the affection system. Afterwards,
continue along, towards where the red arrow on your map points. Make sure
to use the nearby save sphere before leaving though. On the very next screen,
after walking a few steps forward, you'll be ambushed by "???" (who you'll
learn to be Kimahri shortly after.) He just serves as a test for you.

Yuna and the others know Kimahri. In fact, he's a guardian of Yuna! He
sure has a screwed up way of showing loyalty, doesn't he? Anyway, after
the fight, keep going to the next screen, following the path. The next
battle you come across will be against a large bird called a Garuda. Wakka
suggests allowing Yuna to try her new Aeon, Valefor, out. So switch to
Yuna by using the L1 button, and summon Valefor. Simply have Valefor
attack every turn, and the battle will be quick and painless. The next
battle will be against another Garuda, but this time you'll have to use
Wakka's Dark Attack to blind it. Under these conditions, you can take it
out with whoever you want. Attack, summon Valefor, use Lulu's magic; It
doesn't matter. The best part is that it's the last tutorial battle!

The battles that follow are real, despite the fact that they are all easy.
Just make your way along the path, walking under the waterfall, using
what you've learned to take out the enemies. Flans go to Lulu, and flying
enemies go to Wakka or an aeon. Remember that. When you reach the next
screen, walk down the steps, and head south, into the beach area. Save
your game as soon as you enter this area, then follow the others over to
the dock. You can talk to the priest near it for a [Seeker's Ring], and
walk over to the left side of the beach to find a chest that holds two
[Antidotes]. Head onto the dock itself, and talk to the people there. You
will be given an [Ether], [400 Gil] and three [Phoenix Downs]. When you're
finally ready to leave, head onto the ship.

The screen fades, and when it opens again, you'll see Tidus messing with a
worker, and stealing his binoculars so that he can look around. When you can
move, go and listen to the group of people at the head of the boat, to learn
some more about Yuna. Go talk to Wakka afterwards, and he'll enlightend Tidus
on the matter. He'll also tell you to go speak with Yuna. First things first
though. Head around to the back of the ship, and walk down the ramp.

There, you'll meet O'aka XXIII. He sounds like a jackass at first, but you
will come to know him later, and he'll sell you items. If you talk to him
now, he'll just want you to lend him some gil. You don't have to, but it
does count for something. See, he has base prices for all of his items, that
he will sell later on, at the Mushroom Rock area, but he doesn't sell them for
that. What he sells them for, is dependant on how much gil you loan him. 0-100
will cause him to sell his items for double. 101-1,000 will cause him to sell
them for a 50% markup. 1,001-10,000 will cause him to sell for a 20% markup.
And finally, 10,001 and up will earn you a 30% discount. You probably don't
have much now, but you will have three more chances to donate later, which is
good. Paying the full price isn't worth it, but make sure to pay him a little
each time you see him. You'll need to do so in order to be able to get some
good armor later in the game.

After O'aka thanks you, head to the room on the left side of the corridor.
There, you can talk to Keepa if you want. More importantly, however, is that
there is a chest that contains a [Remedy]. You can then head to the room
south of where O'aka is to reach the power room. The ship is powered by a
bunch of Chocobos running on tread wheels! In the room, on the floor, you'll
find a copy of [Al Bhed Primer III]. Grab it, and head back upstairs, to
where O'aka is. Use the save sphere that's in the room to save your game.
Finally, head back up to the deck. You'll find Yuna at the head of the ship.

Yuna and Tidus talk for a while, about Tidus's father, and how Yuna believes
he is the same man that acted as a guardian for her father, Lord Braska.
There conversation is cut short when the boat is attacked by Sin. This isn't
going to be like last time, though. This time, you're going to fight, and
you are going to win.

This battle is underwater, which means you'll only have Tidus and
Tidus and Wakka to use. That means that you'll have to be a bit
more cautious than in the previous fight. Like in the previous
fight, there are Sinscales here as well: Four of them in fact, and
they can do 60 damage or so with each attack. Just keep your focus
on the Sinspawn though. Have Wakka cast Dark Attack on him right
off the bat, and make sure to use any overdrives when you get them.
It can also be very useful to have Tidus use Cheer thee first turn.
If you keep the Sinspawn blinded (by using Dark Attack), you can
often keep him from landing his Drain attack, which will leech some
of your HP. That leaves only his other attack, Blender. You will
not be able to dodge it, and it can do over 100 damage to each of
your characters. He generally does it every three turns, so keep an
eye on the CTB bar, and heal whenever your characters go under 200
HP. After attacking, the Sinscales will be gone for a turn. So that
will give you a bit of a break. Just keep up with attacks and heals
and you'll be fine.

The first time you enter Kilika, there's nothing interesting in the first
area. Everything is closed down due to the Sin attack. So, head forward and
take a left at the first turn. Walk along that dock to reach another screen.
There, you can walk forward until you find Lulu. She explains that Yuna has
to send the dead, so that they can be guided. She explains that if the dead
are not sent, they will become fiends. After the cutscene ends, the game will
skip to Tidus waking up at the inn, the next day. Save your game, then head
outside. There, you'll be told that Wakka is looking for you.

Take the southern exit of the screen, back to the dock area. It is looking a
little better now. In fact, you can even enter the tavern, which is the
building in the center of the area. There, you'll find an [Al Bhed Primer IV]
sitting on the counter. After picking it up, head back outside and walk to
the right of the tavern to find Wakka. They talk a little about blitzball,
and then Wakka directs Tidus to the temple, which he says should be the
next stop. If you want, you can stop at the weapon stand on the screen before
you go, though. None of the weapons are great, but the armor isn't bad if
you don't have anything better yet. Use your best judgement.

When you're characters are suited up, head left of the tavern, back to the
previous screen. Walk to the left there, and begin walking up, along the
next dock. There's a girl standing on the platform on the left. Talk to
her, and the platform will collapse, with Tidus saving her just in time.
You can then head into the house across from where the girl was standing,
and open the chest that you find there for three [Potions]. You can then
backtrack to the tavern. If you saved the girl, she will be there next to
a treasure chest, containing an [Ether]. With all of these items in your
pocket, you can return to where you found the girl, and head north along
the dock, straight into Kilika Woods. Save your game when you arrive.

Walk forward, and you'll see a scene of Yuna asking Tidus to be one of her
guardians. Wakka calls Tidus a newbie. When the scene ends, you'll find
yourself with several paths to follow. Head straight ahead and you'll get
attacked by a Ragora. In this battle, you'll get to test out Kimahri's
Lancet ability. Lulu will force you to, actually. So, give it a shot.
Kimahri will gain the Seed Cannon ability from the fiend! You'll then have
to use his overdrive, which will be either Jump, or any of the abilities
you've learned through Lancet. All of those are listed in the Ronso Rage
section of this guide. For now, just finish off the Ragora though. After
this fight, head forward for a real fight, against the boss, Lord Ochu.

Lord Ochu is vulnerable to fire, so you can use that to your
advantage. You can have Lulu attack with Fire magic, and you may
even have a weapon with Firestrike as an ability. You have to be
careful though. Lord Ochu likes to use his Poison Claw to inflict
your characters with poison. That will hurt you each turn. You may
have a few antidotes, but there hasn't been many chances for you to
get them, so you're probably low. Lord Ochu has a pretty dangerous
Water spell besides it though, and that will be able to do 300 or
so damage to your characters. To better protect them, have Yuna
summon Valefor, and have him cast Fire each turn. Valefore, like
all aeons, is immune to poison. Hopefully, you'll be able to fill
his overdrive bar, and hit Lord Ochu with an Energy Ray. Into the
fight, however, Lord Ochu will probably put himself to sleep. In
this state, he'll heel over 500 HP every turn. When this happens,
dismiss Valefor immediately. You'll want to be able to deal lots
of damage each turn to make up for Ochu's healing. Have Lulu cast
fire, while Kimahri and Tidus attack. Alternatively, you can keep
Yuna out in place of Kimahri or Tidus, to cure when necessary. If
Lord Ochu wakes up, you may want to summon Valefor again. This
battle is the toughest so far, for your level, and it may take a
while, but the AP and the MP Shere he drops are worth fighting for.
Just don't let anyone's HP drop below 200 (His eathquake attack
does this damage to all of your characters) and you'll be all set.

If Yuna has her NulTide ability, then she can be very useful in
this fight. You probably don't have it, but you might. It's just a
few spots of her starting point on the sphere grid. If you do have
this, you should also have Esuna, which comes before it. Have Yuna
cast NulTide at the start of the battle, and after every Water

When you beat Lord Ochu, talk to the two crusaders nearby, and you will be
given an [Elixer]. I also reccomend going to the menu, and using Yuna's
Cure ability to heal. You may even want to go back and save again. After
that, head back to the first junction of the woods, and head left. Then,
take a right at the first turn, to find a chest. Open it to find a [Scout].
There, pull a 180-degree turn, and head back to the intersection. This time,
head down the path to the right. You'll find a chest there as well. That one
contains two [Mana Spheres]. Once you've got these items, head back to where
you fought the Lord Ochu, and keep going until you reach another junction.
Somewhere around there you'll find the Crusaders again. Talk to them after
defeating the Lord Ochu and you'll be given a [NulBlaze Shield].

If you keep following the path that's straight ahead of you, you'll come
to a chest that contains a [Luck Sphere]. Grab that, then turn around and
head to the previous junction. There, head to the right, and follow that
path until you come to some old stone steps. Ascend the stairway, and you
will see another cutscene. After it ends, save your game by using the
nearby save sphere. Then, head to the top of the stairway, where you'll do
battle with another Sinspawn.

If you were capable of defeating the Lord Ochu, you should have no
trouble with this guy. Start by using Wakka, Tidus and Kimahri to
target one of the two tentacles. Between the three od them, you
should be able to take out both of the tentacles in just two turns.
You can then shift your focus onto the main body. He's weak against
fire, so have Lulu cast magic on it -- If you try to do this before
the tentacles are gone, they will absorb the magic instead. With
no tentacles to protect it, the main body will be wide open for
attacks. Deal 500 damage or so (which is easy, between it's fire
weakness, and the fact that it has very little defense) and its pod
will open up. In this new form, it's a bit more dangherous. It will

After the fight, Wakka and Lulu explain how Sinspawn are fiends that fall
off of Sin's body. Sin comes back for them if you are not quick to dispose
of them. After they finish talking, and you gain control of Tidus again,
walk forward and head up the next set of stairs. You'll then see another
cutscene. You'll learn a little more about Wakkas brother Chappu. When it
ends, you'll be at the outside of Kilika temple. Make your way to the
entrance of the temple. There, you'll meet some of the Luca Goers. They're
a bunch of jerks to you, but ignore them for now. You'll have plenty of
time to kick their asses come the Blitzball tournament. When they leave,
head inside the temple.

After entering, you can save your game by using the save sphere that you
will see. Talk to Wakka, and you'll get another chance to Pray or just
stand and watch. Again, this affects peoples' affection levels. Do as you
like. After the cutscene, you'll meet another summoner, named Dona, who
has just finished the cloister of trials at the temple. She's as bad as
the Luca Goers. There's a lot of conceited people at this temple! After,
make your way up the stairs, to reach the entrance of the cloister of
trials. Tidus will not be allowed to enter. Just wait for the elevator to
come back up, however, and Barthello and Dona will come back, and force
Tidus into the cloister. Oh well, more fun for us. We all *love* those
exciting temples don't we...

1) Walk forward, and go through the stone door in the first room.
2) Take the Kilika sphere from the pedestal in the next room.
3) Place it in the door to burn it, then remove the sphere again.
4) Move to the next room, and place to Kilika sphere in the north-wall.
5) Remove the Kilika sphere, and place it in the east-wall.
6) Touch the glyph that appeared on the north-wall.
7) Move to the next room, and take the Kilika Sphere from the east-wall.
8) Head to the previous room, and place it in the wall on the left.
9) Take the glyph sphere from the pedestal in that room.
10) Place it in the wall of the next room, where you got the Kilika Sphere.
*) This reveals a hidden room with the destruction sphere.
11) Step on the switch near the hidden hallway, to make a pedestal appear.
12) Place a Kilika Sphere from the previous room into the pedestal.
13) Move the pedestal onto the switch, to lower a section of the floor.
14) Head down the ramp, and remove the Kilika Sphere from the east-wall.
15) Head up the second ramp, and place the sphere in the door.
16) Go back and grab the Destruction Sphere.
17) Head down the ramp, and place it in the east-wall.

After you head up the stairs, you'll see a scene between Wakka and Lulu
explaining what the fayth, and why he shouldn't have followed Yuna. Talk
to all three (well, talk to Lulu and Wakka, and get pushed by Kimahri)
then head for the south exit of the roof. You won't get far, because Yuna
will walk out of the chamber of the fayth at that instant. When she arrives
you will have your second aeon: Ifrit! You'll then automatically be taken
to the entrance of the temple. There, everyone will congratulate Yuna on
her safe return, and Tidus will have another flashback of his Zanarkand.
After he has a short outburst where he screams at the top of his head, you
will walk back into Kilika Woods.

Head through the woods the same way that you made it through last time, but
in reverse. You're heading back for port Kilika. If you get into a battle
along the way, you'll have the perfect chance to test out Ifrit, your brand
new aeon. He's a huge improvement over Valefor, but do remember that he
leans into the fire category. He can do physical damage too, but unlike
Valefor, he doesn't have water, ice, or thunder spells. Once in Kilika,
head back to where you got off of the boat, and tell Wakka that you are
ready to embark. The next destination is Luca but there's a boat ride first.

After a cutscene that shows different areas of the ship, you'll take control
of Tidus in the cabin areas. Open the chest that's in the middle of the room
for a [Hi-Potion]. You can then leave the room to reach the main corridor.
There, you'll find a save sphere, and O'aka XXIII again. He's looking for
some more gil again, and if you haven't give him 10,001 yet, I suggest you
continue working on that. If you actually want to buy something, you'll have
to talk to him three times -- and his stock is extremely limited right now.
Still, you can use what he does have.

Once you're done with O'aka, head up the stairs to reach the main deck. Then,
head through the door just next to you to reach the bridge. There, on the
ground, you'll find a copy of [Al Bhed Primer V]. After you pick it up, go
back to the main dock, and walk forward to the crowd of people. There, you
have to endure the Luca Goers' annoying attitudes. When they leave, talk to
Yuna one more time, so that she's done talking, then head over to the case
of stairs on the back of the ship. At the top, Lulu and Wakka are talking
about Tidus, and about their past. You'll have to go to the top of the
stairs a total of four times to hear everything. Even after that, you can
head to the top, talk to both of them, then head back down the stairs to
hear just a little more.

The next thing to do is head back to the head of the ship, where you'll
find a blitzball on the ground. Examine it, and Tidus will have another
flashback of him and his father, Jecht. You'll then enter a mini-game of
sorts: The Jecht Shot Challenge. What will happen, is text boxes will
appear around the screen. If its in the center, press X. If it's on the
left, press Left and X; If it's above, press Up and X. If its in the top-
right corner, press up, right, and X. Basically, press X and whatever
direction it is in. If you can nail enough of them, Tidus will nail a
perfect Jecht shot. Take that Jecht!

Wakka oversees this, and asks what's it called. "It doesn't have a name,
anyone can do it if they try," says Tidus. This impresses the others, but
more importantly, if you do it, you'll have earned yourself the Jecht Shot
ability for when you play Blitzball games, a bit later on. It's one of the
most useful abilities in the game. If you don't get it now, you can get
it later on in the game, but you may just want to reset and try again.
The ability will really help you come the tournament.

Talk to Yuna, and she'll say that once Jecht showed her the shot when she
was a child. Humorously, he called it the "Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot
Mark III!" Tidus says that even though he didn't have a I or II version,
Jecht used the third in order to hook the crowd. It's kind of funny. Yuna
and Tidus will talk a bit more. After they finish talking, Tidus will go
to bed, and you'll be given a chance to save your game. Take that chance,
and the next day, you'll arrive in Luca.

Arriving in Luca, you'll see a cutscene of all of the Blitzball teams getting
off of the boats, while the announcers talk about them. Shortyl after that,
Maester Mika, the leader of Spira, arrives at a different dock. Walk to the
right and save your game, then head off of the screen to the north -- the
only way you can exit it right now. There, walk a bit further to the right,
and you'll see another cutscene. This one introduces Maester Mika as well as
another maester, Seymour. When it ends, you'll be given another chance to
save your game, which I suggest you make use of. You'll then immediately be
taken to the Aurochs' locker room, where you'll be able to go over the rules
of Blitzball. Winning games isn't important -- even the tournament game --
but if you want to have any fun, you really should go over the rules. Go to
the "End Tutorial" option when you are ready to continue.

Yuna then shows up and says that someone saw Auron in a cafe. You'll have
to go look for him, picking up some items along the way, before you play
any blitzball. Before you leave, Tidus will run into some Al Bheds in the
locker room, but he won't be able to understand them. If you are replaying
the game, you'll understand them, but I'm not going to translate. You are
not supposed to understand them yet -- they say something to do with the
upcoming plot turn. So for now, just head out of the locker room to the
south to reach the main gate of Luca. Before doign anything else, head to
the locker room left of the one you come out of. You'll find a treasure
chest in the back that contains two [Hi-Potions]. You'll also find a copy
of [Al Bhed Primer VI] on the floor in there.

Once you've picked up both of those items, head back outside, and head off
of the screen to the south. There, you'll see a short cutscene of Yuna being
surrounded by cameras. After the scene ends, continue to head north; Do not
follow the red arrow yet, there are more things to do first. If you keep
heading north until you reach a building, you'll find yourself at the Luca
Theater, where you can watch movies and listen to music (I suggest buying
the Otherworld opening video!) More on that is in the Side Quests section
of this guide. For now, head inside, andpick up the copy of [Al Bhed Primer
VII] which will be on the ground in the middle of the room. Once you have
that, you can head back to the intersection, and head east, like the red
arrow on your map has been telling you to do.

This brings you to Luca Square, where Yuna gives you some background on
the city. You'll find the cafe in the nort exit of the square, but don't
go in just yet. Instead, head up the stairs to the right of it, and head
onto the next screen. There, you'll find a chest with [1,000 Gil] inside
it. If you head further, you can talk to Gatta and Luzzu, but you can't go
any further. So, instead, head down the stairs and enter the cafe. You
won't find Auron in the cafe, but you will see a cutscene where Kimahri
gets into a quarrel with some larger Ronsos. Somewhere during the fight,
the tournament begins. More importantly, however, Yuna has gone missing.
Oh damn, this isn't good...

Kimahri and Tidus run outside and meet up with Lulu. According to her, Yuna
has been kidnapped by the Al Bhed Psyches, and they are holding her ransom
in exchange for the Aurochs throwing the game. Well that's just not gonna
happen. Start your search for Yuna by heading back to the main gate of Luca.
There, head off, down the path to your left. There, you'll find O'aka, who
has been improving his list of wares. You'll also be given another chance
to lone him some gil. You can buy something if you like. His list of wares
are shown below. He's not the only one with items though. Head left of
O'aka to find a chest leaning against a pile of crates, holding [600 Gil].
There's another chest further along that dock, containing a [Tidal Spear].

When you feel that you're equipped properly, head to the next screen.
There, you'll get into a battle with a couple of Workers -- machina that
was salvaged by the Al Bhed. You don't have a party to switch around, so
just have Kimahri and Tidus attack, while Lulu uses her Thunder spell,
which the machina are weak against. When the fight ends, continue to the
next screen, where you'll fight two more just like them. The same tactics
apply here, as well. Defeat them, and head to the right, to the next
screen. There, you'll fight another two workers. This time, however, when
you defeat two, two more will replace them. You'll have to face three
waves of them.

After the battle, you'll see a cutscene of the blitzball game. The Aurochs
have managed to keep the game tied! Use the nearby save sphere to save your
game, then continue ahead. When you reach the next screen, you'll see a
cutscene of a boat taking off. Tidus, Kimahri and Lulu will jump to it
automatically. On the boat, you'll fight against the Oblitzerator.

warns Yuna not to tell Wakka, who hates Al Bhed. The cutscene then changes
to the Blitzball game. At the very last second, Wakka is able to connect
with the game winning shot! Aurochs go to the finals! After the scene ends,
head south, and follow along the path until you reach the main gate area.

Head into the Aurochs' locker room, and you'll find Wakka laying on the
bench in pain. Tidus arrives just in time to take his place in the finals.
When you're ready to play the game, talk to Wakka. I suggest saving before
you do that, though. There's more information on Blitzball in the Blitzball
section of the guide. You can go there if you want tips on winning. This
guide will just continue onward, as it doesn't actually matter if you win
or lose. Give it your all though, because if you are victorious, you'll
earn yourself a [Strength Sphere] Do know, however, that one difference in
this game, is that for the last two minutes, Tidus will automatically
switch out for Wakka. Win or lose, the game moves on. Try and give Wakka
his win though.

After the game, you'll be given a chance to save, and you should take it.
Afterwards, Tidus will swim out to the sphere to get Wakka, and you'll be
attacked by Sahagin Chief fiends. They're pretty weak, and you can take
them out with just one or two hits, but they'll keep being replaced as you
strike them down. Thankfully, they don't do much damage. So just keep up
with hitting them until they stop respawning. When you finally finish them
off, the scene will switch to the chaos going on in the stadium's stands.

A huge lizard fiend is causing trouble there, and Auron steps up to take
it down, alone. Truthfully, however, it's no stronger than a normal fiend.
One hit should take it down. After the fight, Wakka and Tidus show just in
time to help Auron in his fight against the Garuda that has just shown up.
This looks (and is named) like one of the fiends you fought way back in
Besaid Island, but don't be fooled. It's a whole lot tougher -- and no,
you can't change your party around for the fight. No aeons allowed.

After the fight, you'll be surrounded by fiends. Fear not, however, because
this will all end with a cutscene. Seymour summons his extremely badass
aeon, Anima, who proceeds to whipe the floor with all of the fiends in the
stadium. When it's over, you'll be able to save your game yet again. You
will then see a cutscene of Wakka telling the Aurochs that he is becoming
Yuna's fulltime guardian -- if you won the tournament, he'll be holding a
humongous trophy as well. After that, Tidus flips out on Auron for causing
him to end up in Spira. Auron just laughs at him, before he gives a tale
of how he, Jecht, and Braska defeated Sin, and how Jecht is in fact Sin! In
the end, Auron says that he is going to offer to become a guardian to Yuna.

There's a whole lot going on right now, but it will be cleared up in time.
For now, just follow Auron south to the main gate area, then head south of
there, to the next screen. There, head across the area into Luca square.
Head up the stairs in the north-east corner of the screen, and you'll see
a cutscene of Yuna meeting Auron, and him offering to become her guardian.
He is of course greeted openly, being Auron and all. Auron says that Tidus
will be coming along as well. After the scene ends, talk to Yuna, and her
and Tidus will talk some more. When the scene ends, the party will head up
the stairs and straight into Mi'ihen Highroad.

As soon as you enter the Highroad, head over to the save sphere on the left
and use it. Not only will you be able to save your game, you'll now be able
to play Blitzball by using the save spheres, and you'll also be able to scout
Blitzball players by pressing square; Not bad! Another thing to do immediately
after entering, is to talk to the traveller who is wandering around near the
entrance to the highroad. He'll give you a [Hi-Potion]. After you finish
talking to him, head north along the path. You'll find an old guy who will
tell you about the area, as well as a girl who will give you two [Antidotes]
when you talk to her.

Keep going and you'll soon enter a battle against a Raldo. Tidus will say
he can handle it, but attacking it will do very little damage. Have Auron
attack it, and it will be taken down (due to Auron's higher strength as well
as having the Piercing ability on his weapon.) Continue going through the
area, getting into random battles along the way. Head a little further from
there, and you'll have the old guy come and explain more about the world.
This time you can't avoid his story. When he finishes, head around the old
ruins on your left to find a chest cntaining an [Ice Brand]. Take it, then
walk back to the road and head north again.

You'll come across the Chocobo Knights, who will warn of a large chocobo-
eating fiend in the area. Tidus has the bright idea to go after it. Talk to
the next traveller you see walking towards you for a [Hunter's Spear], then
head into the enclosed area on the right side of the road. There, you'll
find a summoner named Belgemine. She'll offer to test you in an aeon battle.
You have nothing to lose, so give it a shot -- she'll even heal your aeons
before the fight. Unfortunately, she'll summon Ifrit, so you'll only be
able to use Velefore.

This fight is horribly unfair. You can only use Valefor, while
Belgenine uses Ifrit, who outclasses you in every way. You can
offset her advantage by earning Valefor an overdrive prior to
entering the battle, and then unleashing it at the start. The Ifrit
alternates between attacking and using Meteor Strike, a very
damaging attack. On turns that the Ifrit attacks, use boost so that
your overdrive bar fills quickly. Shield before Meteor Strike, so
that you don't take too much damage. A second overdrive should end
the fight for you. You may have to train Yuna a bit for this fight.

If you fail to beat Belgenine, you'll be given a [Seeker's Ring]. If you
do beat her, however, you'll be given an [Echo Ring]. With whatever prize
you recieve, continue to head north along the road until you reach the
next screen. There, walk forward until you find a chocobo, then head north
to find a treasure chest that contains a [Remedy]. From there, head a
little bit further to the right, and you'll see a cutscene of two young
girls greeting Yuna. Tidus is then told that Sin keeps coming back, and
that there is a calm during the time when Sin is gone.

After the scene ends, talk to the man in armor that goes to run by, and
you will be given a [Red Ring]. You can then kick a nearby blitzball with
the X button for some fun, to make a kid angry -- that's always fun! If you
avoid kicking it, and you talk to him, he'll give you three [Softs]. You
can then head to the next screen on the right. There, you should be able
to find another man with a helmet walking around. Talk to him to gain a
[Lv. 1 Key Sphere]! At this point in the game, that is a very valuable find.
There is also another traveller in the area who will give you four
[Antidotes]. These people are generous!

Head halfway across the area, heading north, and you'll see another open
area off to the right of the road. Head over there and you'll find a chest
that contains [2,000 Gil]. Empty it, then head back to the path and keep
going north. Keep moving until you run into the Crusaders again. Hear them
out, then continue heading north. Talk to the woman on the left side of the
road for a [Hi-Potion] and the traveller coming from ahead for [600 Gil].
After taking these gifts, head forward and talk to the "lowly acolyte" who
is arguing with a crusader. She tells of how the upcoming crusader mission
will be using forbidden machina. When she's done talking, start moving
again. There's a chest in the middle of the road which contains three [Eye
Drops]. Take them, and head to the next screen.

On the next screen, you'll find a Rin's travel agency shop. Auron tells
the others that they will rest there. After the cutscene, the screen will
automatically fade out, and you'll find yourself inside the agency. You
can take a moment to buy some items if you'd like. The list of available
wares is shown below.

When you are ready to advance the story, head outside. There, you'll see
a cutscene of Tidus speaking to Yuna about Sin. Yuna says that when she
performs the final summoning she'll be able to defeat Sin. Zanarkand is
the final stop on the pilgramage. Auron then calls Tidus and Yuna back
to the agency. When the scene ends, you'll again be inside the travel
agency. There, make for the door, and a man will stop you and give you a
[Lv. 1 Key Sphere]. He'll also offer you a tutorial on key spheres that
you should watch if this is your first time playing through the game.

After the man leaves, head for the door again, and you'll meet up with
Rin. He'll tell you a little about the Al Bhed language, and even give you
some help in learning it, by presenting you a copy of [Al Bhed Primer VIII].
Rin's a cool guy! Immediately after the conversation, you'll hear a scream
from outside. That would be the Chocobo Eater and you're going to be
fighting it. Rin will give you two [Mega-Potions] that should aid you
during this fight. Simply walk outside and take a few steps north to begin
the fight.

Strategy:

In my experience, this is the best way to handle this fight, as it
earns the best rewards. Have your party be Tidus, Auron, and Lulu.
Have Tidus haste Auron first, and then Lulu, then himself. On the
first chance you get, have Auron use Power Break. This will lower
the danger of the battle. After that, have Tidus and Auron attack
each turn, while Lulu uses fire. You should gradually push the
Chocobo Eater back, if you don't let up on the assault. When he is
below the 3,000 HP mark or so, and is knocked down, he'll start
countering with Blizzard. Still, however, do not let up. If you let
him push you back two or more times, you most likely won't be able
to knock him off the edge. See, if you hit him fast enough, you
force him to back up to the edge, and fall off. Let him push you
back, however, and you'll end up killing him first. You'll still
win the battle, but you'll get no key sphere.

Alternate Strategy:

Start the fight by having Tidus haste Auron and Lulu. Then, have
Auron attack consistently while Lulu casts fire. Do this until you
are pushed close to the edge of the platform. When this happens,
you can switch to Yuna and summon Ifrit. Have him use his overdrive
right away if he has it -- this should do at least 3,000 damage.
Afterwards have him use Boost, so that he an fill up his overdrive
bar quickly, again. If the Chocobo Eater does a "You're Next!" it
will mean he's readying his Fist of Fury attack which does alot of
damage. Use shield when this happens to block the majority of the
attack. Even if Ifrit is defeated, you should only have to land a
few more attacks to defeat the monster. Note that if your Lulu is
not very strong, she can be replaced with Kimahri or Wakka.

Alternate Strategy:

I do not reccomend this at all, as it yields no reward however.
All you have to do is wait, and not die. Use phoenix downs or cure
as necessary, until the Chocobo Eater pushes you off of the cliff.
You will not get a game over, you will just land in another part of
   | the highroad. As mentioned, however, this is not a good way t
